I was changing out my sparkplugs today and bumped what appears to be a vacuum hose that goes into the side of the block. It simply popped out of the pipe that is in the block. It appears it was just sitting in the pipe without a clamp or anything. I put it back and it seems to run fine. Can someone tell me if this is a problem. I am not sure what it is. Attached a picture.

That's your PCV valve. They just stick in the hole w/o a clamp.

Get a new rubber grommet, PCV valve and the correct hose. With a new grommet the valve will be held in fairly firmly.

Definitely be careful removing that old grommet! Mine was so old and crusty that it came apart in ten pieces. I lost a very small chunk of it and it fell inside the engine.... hopefully it's made its way into the oil pan and hasn't caused the push rods any concern. Clean or replace that pcv as well. It's 4 bucks for the valve and 4 bucks for the grommet. It made a difference in my engine's performance and helped my emissions a bit as well. It's normal to have oil in there, but if it gets sticky it can be a problem. Mine had NEVER been changed. The positive crankcase vent allows fumes from the engine out so they don't get recirculated with the oil. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
