Hey Jonathan,

While we're not in the US, we might be able to find you one and get it shipped to you. Keyword might. What year(s) are you looking for? The photo below was a restoration done in California that fetched $75k. (more text below photo)

Right now, there is a '79 for sale here in Costa Rica with a gas engine. Here is a photo of it.

We'd probably be looking at about $12k for this one shipped to you in the US.

The price is right at $10,000. If you live in a gulf State like Texas, Florida, Louisianna, or Mississippi, then shipping would probably only be about $1,000. Here's how it breaks down to get it out of Costa Rica.
  • Ownership transfer - About $300-$400. When you buy a car here, it HAS to go through an attorney
  • Steam Cleaning the undercarriage. $100ish (Required in the U.S. to import a vehicle)
  • Shipping - $1,000 to a port in the Gulf. Could be higher to other ports on the East and West Coast. Inland shipping would be more and probably easier to arrange in the US by you once you receive it.
The price also includes our mechanics thoroughly running through the entire vehicle and creating a report of any/all issues that they find and for me to photograph every possible spot I can find on the vehicle. And our fees to get it from where it is in Ajauela to the shipping port. Ajauela is on the West Coast of Costa Rica. If you're receiving it in a West Coast port, then it may be about the same to get it to you from there.

You can get a bit more information on our website about our process -

Here's another shot of it. 1979 manual/gasoline/4x4

Thanks, Bill. That cruiser is on crautos.com (I noticed you cropped the pics to remove the crautos.com watermark) for $5500 USD or best offer.
Was just wondering where the other $6500 was coming from. Are you Asdae/Angel under a new username or her husband?

That one that is $5500 on CRAutos would probably be about $12,000 to get to you through our company.

The car is about 2 hours from us.

Probably a total of 3-4 trips to the city where it's located, (somewhere around 50-70 hours of driving, inspecting, work, etc.)

That price also includes the mechanical inspections AND shipping to a port (up to $1,000)

Or, you could do it yourself. Take a trip down here and arrange everything. Or find one in the States. There are tons of options.

If you come down to do it, you would need

  • to buy a ticket,
  • get ground transportation to the vehicle's location,
  • meet with the buyer who may or may not speak Spanish,
  • Probably hire a translator to help you with the deal
  • buy the vehicle,
  • meet with an attorney and arrange the paperwork,
  • have your ownership documents officially translated for US import,
  • steam the undercarriage,
  • transport the vehicle to the correct port, and more.
Then, hopefully there are no issues with your shipment after you leave the country because if there are, you'd have to fly back to work those out.

However, if someone wants a Diesel FJ (B model) which has been very well taken care of, good luck finding it there. I am not trying to be snarky, just honest. Diesel 40's weren't ever imported into the States. I am offering a service of helping people who truly want to find an extremely RARE vehicle and get it from here to there.

Beyond that, I could probably simply import these for myself, ship them to myself in the States and sell them for $20k+ (not the vehicle above, but the diesels) It is very rare that I see a well cared for diesel go for less than $16k. Honestly, I could make more money bringing them in and selling them there.

Hope that helps answer your question. If you'd like to have a Diesel 40, for less than $15k or so, let me know. You could probably sell it for much, much more in the States.

p.s. I am not sure who the other person is asdae or angel.

I am looking for a gas troopy, LHD.. Id prefer something that I could drive daily.. So-- exterior and interior would need to be done.. As for the engine, Im very easy-- ANYTHING!!=) Id prefer a V8 conversion, but for the right price, I can just do it myself..
Let me know what you have before I have to buy another darn jeep that I dont love.. Thanks again, Jon

@ Coastal Bill-- I saw that one in the ads-- I dont know if it sold for 75K, but it was priced as such.. I wouldnt be interested in anything like that at all-- Im looking for mid 20's-- Thanks
