Hi!
Wanting opinions on how to price my 96 LC.
The good:
All stock, no mods(except sound system and sunroof - see bad)
Triple locked
Never been off road- was owned by a realtor in Atlanta before me
Synthetic high mileage oil changes only
Reupholstered front seats
No rust, Southern states only
No accidents

The bad:
Needs a new heater core and new carpet from an antifreeze leak
Has a short somewhere from a CD changer that was in the trunk
Has a rear main seal oil leak
Sunroof doesn't leak but doesn't work great
Recently developed a coolant leak
~296,000 miles
Needs repainting, original paint
Head gasket has not been replaced yet, that will probably be coming in the future
Electric seats don't work correctly
Cruise control doesn't work, may be the fuse

She needs more time and money than I can put into it right now, it's been hard to keep her on the road. This is not my daily driver anymore and it would be a great project for someone who has the time to spend on it.
Interested in opinions on asking price, unsure where to start given the condition, lack of mods, etc.

Determining pricing can be tricky, especially with limited information such as a few pictures and vague details, like a "coolant leak". The severity of a coolant leak can vary widely, from a simple fix like a hose to a more serious issue like a cracked block. It's hard to give an accurate price without a hands-on inspection by a knowledgeable mechanic familiar with TLC intricacies.

Considering these points, here are my thoughts:
  • Having a triple-locked feature is a positive aspect and very desirable
  • The interior appears very worn, as evident from the torn carpet in the one picture you posted.
  • The presence of aftermarket switches on the dashboard, along with reported electrical problems, raises red flags and concerns.
  • Assessing rust solely from a single underside picture is not dependable. Would need several more pics.
  • The oil around the front differential suggests more than just a rear main leak.
  • The fact that is has a coolant leak and you mention it might need a head gasket is also concerning.

With these factors in mind, I estimate the value of your vehicle to be around $4000−$7000, possibly more if the right buyer is interested and these concerns are minimized and questions answered. Market conditions in SC may also play a role (I am only familiar with Atlanta prices), I've seen FZJ80s in worse condition have sold quickly for $5-6K, but also seen some in better shape that have sometimes struggled to find buyers around that same price.

If you intend to sell it on this platform, you must upload a larger number of photos and give more details. I would suggest:
  • Include 8-10 pictures of the underside.
  • Provide 10-12 images of the interior.
  • Include 4-6 photos of the engine bay.
  • Consider obtaining a Carfax report.
  • Share any available maintenance records.
  • Invest $100 in a comprehensive inspection by a qualified mechanic and obtain a detailed report.

Putting in this extra effort will significantly benefit potential buyers by providing them with a clearer understanding of the vehicle. It will also help you sell it quickly at a fair price.

I hope this was helpful.
