Hi all,

Total newbie here. On the search for a used LC. Got two interesting options so far. Was wondering what y'all thought between the two.

  1. 1997 LX450/Landcruiser with Diff Locks, 266k miles - $7500 (white)
  2. 1993 Toyota Landcruiser, 225K miles, $5995 (burgandy)
Happy to post specs for each, but didn't want to clog the post initially...and just wanted to an informal poll going. :)

Thanks in advance,
J

The burgundy is too "pretty". It has clearly been detailed and polished with loads of tire shine applied. That is a tactic I use whenever I am selling a used vehicle that has a ton of issues that I would rather they not notice on initial inspection.

Aw the Burgundy grows on ya.
I seen and test drove the Speed Sports one.
It's been on CL forever.
When I went down there a few weeks ago they had to push some rigs out cause it was buried in the back.
The Pics are nice looking but the paint is wasted, large areas of clear missing all over the place.
It didn't want to shift into 4 low at first, lots of grinding moving the lever.
NO CDL switch but it had the ESP ? switch. no lockers.
Interior was fair, missing fuse panel and the 3rd brake light was hanging askew by one screw.
Lots of leaks underneath, possible oil pan or whatever leaks towards the rear, left a healthy puddle.
Seemed to drive and shift ok.
I offered $4K cash and they said nope.
After looking around some more I'm glad they didn't take it.

thanks y'all.

took the 93 to a mechanic today who gave me apprx 1500-2000$ worth of work to get it up to speed!

i'm going to see the 97 tomorrow. will know more then. i think i could talk him down some though.

it is a shame about the pricing....

There's no other options in your area? 266k miles is an awful lot. Even if he comes down on the price, it could need a substantial amount of work to get it truly reliable. And being that it's a '97, see what you can find out about the head gasket. I think it would have been replaced somewhere along the line.

I'd keep searching CL and Autotrader.
Search land cruiser and landcruiser.

Most are ridiculously priced but decent priced ones with lower mileage pop up now and again, just be ready to jump on it.

One dude was posting his 95 with 3 lockers that he just scored out of this area.
It was listed for $3500, I believe he got it for $2800. 155K miles or so.

I'm always cruising CL, looking for a decent priced wrecked/broke one now.

i'm really glad i sent this out to y'all. i will continue to look. right now, not in any hurry. thanks! :grinpimp:

Don't limit your search area, except from the rustbelt.

The network of enthusiasts is vast and knowledgeable, most more than happy to inspect rigs on your behalf.

Shipping isn't horrendously bad and there's several Mudder's in the business.

My suggestion would be to post up a "Want to Buy" thread in classifieds, being very specific to all attributes desired, along with budget.
