Hello everyone!

As of right now I own a lifted jdm Subaru Sti wagon. But I am trying to sell it and once I do I will be looking to import a fj80 from Japan (I live in Canada so we can import vehicles 15 years old). I am hoping to import a diesel, now I'm just wondering what kind of things I should look out for when looking at the fj80. Common problems, red flags, all that kind of basic information for someone who is new to the Land Cruiser community. I don't know if this kind of thread has been made or not, hence why I'm asking.

Any and all information is welcomed!

Thanks
Collin

Do they still have yearly full vehicle inspections in Japan? If so, then that would be a plus?

Are you importing or is the price you pay a firm price including port fees, shipping, import fee etc.

As far as I know they still have the inspections. I'm planning on going through one of those import companies and doing the whole thing through them.

FYI, FJ80 and FZJ80 (models starting with the letter F) implies petrol models. HDJ80 or HZJ80 (models starting with the letter H) implies diesel models.

There should be plenty that have already been imported in western Canada, especially in BC and AB. Check out the local club forums on ih8mud. Here's one. You can get a new crank from Middle East for CAN$800.

1990 Toyota Land Cruiser VX Diesel | used cars & trucks | Calgary | Kijiji
Yeah I look everyday on kijiji but I don't want to buy something with 280,000km for $6000. Seems a little crazy to me, plus most used vehicles in Canada are overpriced for what they are (how many kms on them).

Some Series 80 diesels have an issue with the Big End Bearings (BEBs). Research if the year you are buying is one of these. This is a one time correctable item, so either make sure it has been done, or budget to get them done upon purchase.

Thanks for the information!! just the kind of stuff I'm looking for
