I've always wanted an FZJ-80, and now it is looking like I'm able to buy one, so I hopped on craigslist, ebay, cars.com, and had a look.

Between the three of them, there was only one 80 for sale  Of course, it was in IL, and I live in Idaho.

So are people just not selling their 80s right now? I am also a bit concerned because I want the factory lockers and an FZ rather than the 3FE, so I'm narrowing down an already non-existent pool :bang:

Am I looking in the wrong place?

I have two other questions, I've heard 80s have a second gear start button; is this meant to be used in 4-low? When I'm wheeling in a Taco/pickup I always start in second gear unless I need the umph of first, so is this the same concept?
Is there a button or switch I can look for in pictures to tell if an 80 has the locker option?

There's 5 on the Portland Craigslist. Use the craigslist search utility (search for it here on mud, a 'mudder made it).

I purchased my fzj with lockers in boise earlier this year. At that time the boise craigslist had a # of fzj's several with lockers that I test drove. Utah rigs are rusty often, but consider ksl.com, they have several examples currently including a 91 with a 4.7 swap!
Good luck.

do you have the link for the one you found in IL?

To answer your two other questions, the second start button is used in HI range typically and will start in 2nd gear rather than first for snow / slippery conditions to reduce the wheel force improving traction. It wasn't a big hit in the U.S. but it was requested by other markets so we got it too.

The magic dial for lockers is to the immediate left of the steering column near the IP lights dimmer knob, it's pretty obvious and if a seller knows the value of lockers they usually take a picture of it, otherwise you'll be lucky to see it in a picture in an advert.

g'luck on your search, be sure to put up pics when you get yours.

The second gear start button is for starting from a stop in the snow/ice to control wheel spin.

The locker switch is to the left of the steering wheel >>

Found one that may be perfect, it is a 96 and apparently it has never been off road; is there any concern I should have regarding the 4-Lo not getting used?

Another question, found a '1995' for $3800. Has 173k miles, is a little beat up, but assuming everything else checks out, it looks good.
However, it has the 1994 and previous T O Y O T A emblem, I asked about this and the owner said it was manufactured in Sept. of 94 so it should be a 95. Odd?

Hopefully I'll be buying an 80 in the next couple days... is there anyone that can answer my questions :x

Ask for a VIN # and then call a Toyota dealership that will run an inquiry (they all can do this, but some of them like to be extra whiney). The inquiry will tell you the basic info about the car and how it is optioned from the factory, basically a web-based window sticker.

It's also possible that car has been in a front end accident and used 1994 front end parts for a repair.

Unless it's been in an accident, the sticker under the hood should be able to verify which year it is (which regulations it conforms to) and if it's OBDI or OBDII. I've never seen or heard of an unrepaired 1995 with a TOYOTA grill.

Transmission will also be an indicator, all 1995's had the A343F, '94 and previous had A443F.
