I'm actually running back down to the shop to snag some last minute parts for my t-case overhaul, gimme 15-20 minutes and I'll measure it.
Approx 49mm at the core. The caps are wider than the core proper.

I'm in the same situation as the OP. In my case, I need a new 80-series radiator to suite a FTE/A750F application. I can't find a OEM radiator that has the trans fluid 'warmer' built into the radiator. What do the forum experts think? I don't want to shorten the transmission life by not getting the trans fluid up to temp appropriately.
Are there any options I'm not considering?

Trans fluid warmer? It's a cooler. If you're worried about the trans life get an external cooler.

It's a heat exchanger; it heats or cools depending on conditions. I was having a brain fart and couldn't remember the correct term. Either way, I think it's probably important. I did finally order16400-17030 from MegaZip the other day... we'll see if I get the "sorry, we don't actually have that part" email or if it actually ships.
I have a big 3 or 4 core aluminum from ebay or amazon with Spal E-fans in my hdj81v, and i have a hard time getting up to 185 degrees if the outside temp is below 70. above 70, it will get to 190 after a while, fans turn on, and within a minute it's down to 140. When we were at 110 in the summer it kept me running cool.
Mind you...i'm a 6bt now but still. would probably be overkill for the 1hdt.

Factory toyota or Koyorad (equivalent of factory toyota). Remember a 'radiator' isn't a radiator - it's a convector acting as a heat exchanger between hot coolant (mostly water) and air that is (hopefully) a lower temperature.
Factory fan clutch and fan also with a good condition shroud (so the 'draw' of air through from the front is 'directed').

Just about to order 16400-17020 from @cruiseroutfit . My cruiser is an auto and I already have a trans cooler ready to go.
I've read through several threads with people talking about potential issues skipping the trans coolant circuit in the radiator in COLD weather - but it all seems theoretical. Has anyone actually had a problem with their trans temperatures not getting high enough in the winter?

We should have them in stock @ Cruiser Outfitters, part# RAD170208X. I know many Auto trucks running these with an aux cooler. No reports of issues, that tranny doesn't like to be warm

So a little update on my Cruiser. I ended up changing the oil in my clutch, 50ml of 15k cst. Brand new yellow dot fan. Foamed every gap from shroud to intercooler.
I’m in Bryce Canyon Utah currently (wife’s grandparents summer here). Driving down from Reno Saturday, my gauges weren’t reading correctly, but I never saw anything above 185°.
Recalibrated on Monday and they started reading correctly. We then drove down to Zion, through the park, up I15 to Cedar City, over Hwy14, and back to Bryce. Those of you that have gone east up the 14 from Cedar City, know that is quite the pull. I did see 225° water temp, 232° engine oil temp, and trans stayed below 190° (I’m using the exchanger in the radiator and have an huge Dorale external cooler mounted underneath where the spare tire was). Tuesday we went down to the North Rim and back. Never saw anything above 215° on any temp. Wednesday we went up to Capitol Reef, and again there’s a couple huge pulls, but never saw anything above 215° water temp, 225° oil temp.
While I’m still not satisfied with the cooling capacity, it has improved significantly over 2 years ago when we came down to Bryce.

So this is a 3FE radiator and this bolts up to the hdj81 without modifications???
