Yep, no telling what TG paid for the name. I just hope they stay good to their word, but the problem is that only TG will know if they are really selling you LF supers or rebranded Dirty 30's to save a few $$.

I hope not, but given the Trail-Mart appearance, I fear they might just to make a buck.

We will see how it plays out.

I wonder if they are going to honor Longfields warranty

The press release said specifically that they would honor all Longfield warranties. Besides who do you know that has broken a 30 spline Long w a chromo hub gear?

RCV has been making the 30 spline sets for Bobby for some time now and there are other venders that sell the same parts that aren't Trail Gear. The JT Diffs, Nitro parts are also made by RCV. Im not sure who makes TGs "dirty 30s" because i have never seen one in person. They do claim to be made in the USA and as far as i know RCV are the only people in the US producing them.

Long story short. They all come from the same place either way.

I have a set of 27 spline Longfields with a life time warranty that Bobby replaced replaced once already.

The 877 number on Longfield's site is Trail-Gear's #. You now ship warranties directly to Trail-Gear in Fresno. I was informed that their "initial shipment from Longfield was due in next week" so my warranty should go smoothly (not holding my breath that it goes smoothly OR quickly though). One bonus though: Trail-Gear said they'd pay for return shipping (again, we'll see it that holds true). Pretty sure I had to pay shipping both ways for Longfield - although that wasn't for a warranty, just for a precautionary rebuild so maybe that's different.

I'll update as I get more info.

Just got my first piece of 'expected' info to make me question how this is going to go....

Response to my online inquiry about warranty procedures:
"Please include a copy of your invoice for the purchase and we will take a look at it". If that's not a prelude to refusal of service, I don't know what is. Either the person answering the email isn't well-informed yet, or Longfield's transferable warranty, which is still posted on the site, may be the first victim in the buyout. Whatever the case, my confidence level just dropped significantly.

Might be selling my Long's and buying some Marlin's just out of principle if it does turn out the way it feels like its going already.

This is as new for them as it for us consumers so I would expect to see some misinformation/mistakes given even by the employees. This obviously sounds like a typical canned response that would apply to TG's typical warranty process, I'm under the impression that TG is adopting (at least for now) the LF warranty policy so it will be interesting to see what happens. Arm yourself with written/posted information regarding TG adopting LF warranty policy and then pick up the phone.

edit: Found (well sorta) from TG forum

and

"Repairing the clicking noise was a service that Bobby offered for a fee.( i think it was about$60)
The warranty applies to Broken parts. Ie: star, bell, splines, ect.
At this time we are not servicing birff's like Bobby did.( but very well could in the near future). I too have 2 BL birff's that are not just clicking but popping, and i too never got around to sending them for service. I figure i will run them till they break, then get them warrantied. "

Thanks for the info Ted. That's good to see.

We'll see what happens, if anything, now that TG has the package. IF they have the replacements in as they told me they should by now, and IF they're standing by Long's warranty as they say they are, all they'll have to do is throw the new set in a box and send 'em out the door. IF they do that, I might have it back in time for the New Years ride. Everyone pray for me! haha

**crickets chirping** ......still.

They've had time to redo the website with Longfield stuff added though.

Called TrailField and they said they've shipped me a new one and is showing 7 business days to get to me. Obviously I'm happy that it's "in the mail", but pretty disappointed that there was ZERO correspondence at any time in the process.

Also, they did ask again if "I" had bought it from Longfield. I just said "yes, it originally came directly from Longfield". They also said they aren't likely to ever do any rebuilding like Longfield did, just simple, full replacements - which is mostly good news.

Good to hear even if it is late. The lack of communication would be frustrating but at least they honored the warranty as they promised they would. As quoted above it's no surprise they aren't servicing the birfs like Bobby did, the LF brand is going to take on a different look and we just have to learn to live within the limitations. Of course I say that now, I may not later...

~ but at least they honored the warranty as they promised they would. ~
On the contrary Ted, they honored the warranty like Longfield's website promised. Trail-Gear, on the phone, sounded more like they were NOT going to do it. Twice they implied I needed to be the original purchaser. :ban:
