I have a LX470 100 and I feel that it can easily go 400k miles and possibly more if its maintained properly.

I want to know what people felt about the 200, it has more sophisticated electronic systems, do you guys think it will last as long as the 100?

I have an 01 100 series with 206k miles and a 08 200 series with 156k. My 200 series feels and drives like a brand new truck. My 01 feels like a 15 year old truck. So based on my experience, I fully believe the 200 will have service life as long as, if not longer than a 100 series.

I questioned the quality of the 200 in comparison to the 100 myself at first. After having owned a 200 for a year now, Id say its on par with, if not exceeds the durability of the 100. Just my feeling so far. I guess they can go as long as you want them to assuming you rebuild engine and tranny when they go out. But Id say the drivetrain could go at least 350k before needing a rebuild, with proper maintenance.

@Output Shaft responds here in 5, 4, 3, 2........LOL

I agree with INTP and 89cruiserfj62.

I've put a lot of miles on a lot of cruisers and feel the 200 is the best so far as being super solid (they're all solid.) I think the 80's I'd owned were better than the 100 I had, in terms of durability. I put over 320k miles on one of my 80's with nothing but regular maintenance.

I've said before that the hardware on the 100 was cad plated and on a 15 year old truck the bolts are not frozen. The bolts on the 200 are just painted. I've encounter far more difficult bolts.
BUT, I love my 200 way more than the 100 which felt very tired at 130,000. It's needed suspension overhaul bad.
200 at 75k is brand new.

Speaking of longevity... Saw this on the way to work this morning.
Never seen one of these in person. Almost like a Land Cruiser BUS! ;)

Yeah, but those things have absolutely nothing in common with modern day vehicles. Nothing. Only thing in common is the name and that it was made in Japan.

So is a 1960's Corvette still a cool Vette? Or is it just a dinosaur that has nothing in common with modern day vehicles? ;)

That's a troopie, not common in the states. More common elsewhere. Cool rigs for sure. They still have the same size ring gear as the 200 rear differential

Notice that it has no license plate.
Wondering if it was just imported?

I do know that the Toyota dealer just ahead of that point on the freeway has a SWEET stock 40 in his showroom, and a collection of other Cruisers. Maybe he just imported one...?

I don't think they are too hard to import, but I don't know what the cost is. Of all of em I like the fj43's personally, they are a little smaller than the fj45 troop carriers, but bigger than a 40. They have to be imported as well though. The fj45LV's are pretty cool, they were imported to america, but they are pretty hard to find. Ya I think dealers like to have one or two in their showroom. Bass Pro has a 40 out front too where I live.

I have an 08 with 161k. Runs and drives like new.

I disagree, they carry the same design architecture.

I've spent a decent amount of time with Toyota engineers including Koyarisan, chief engineer of the 200 Series. While other Toyota models have a design criteria of 10% lighter, 20% fuel economy, 15% cheaper cost of manufacture, etc... The Land a Cruiser is "better than the previous model" and I believe Toyota has continued to do just that. Granted "better" is extremely subjective but for the mass of users in market, I think they have done their homework. If I were planning a trip around the globe, it would be in a 200, perhaps even a URJ200 despite my massive love affair of the VDJ200.

Land Cruiser being towed by a Ford, on a thread about LC longevity...

aah the irony.

Towed?
No.
**Carried** as precious cargo.
You know... Like slaves used to carry Pharaoh? ;)

If I ever met the guys who designed the 100 or 200, I am pretty sure I would go into serious awe and shock like I was a teen in front of Justin Bieber. If they were big on Japanese culture I would bow out of respect. I would commend them for designing the most awesomest vehicle on the planet, then I would nicely ask them to include the ARB BP-51 as a stock shock, make 17" wheels stock and not to change anything else. I keep wondering if they are going to mess up the J300 coming out soon.

If past reactions continue...
People will LAMBAST the 300 for about 2 years...
After that, people will start figuring out that it's legitimate...
After about 20 years when the 400 & 500 come out?
-People will long for the 300 that was a "REAL Land Cruiser."

:)

On the wall at Slee, there's a poster from when the 100 series was released.
According to Christo...people SCOFFED at it at the time.
What do you hear about the 100 now?
People have basically figured out it's a super solid overlander.

Funny how things shift.

Confession:
When the 200 was first released...I was amazed at the increased power, but I HATED the look.
Now that I've owned both the 100 and the 200?
-The 200 is a BEAST. Love it. The only thing I miss are the mods I had on my 100 that are still pending on my current LC.

I'm a younger gent (35) but I've been into Cruiser for 20 years and have absolutely become quite keen to the "new hate"

I was working at Cruiser Outfitters when the 80 's were still being sold new, folks called them "mall crawlers, bloated, soccer mom rigs, etc". No difference when the 100 came out, no difference when the 200 came out, no difference when a xxx comes out.

Agree Kurt. I remember when LX450 was new, and the hate people threw its way too.

Our family bought a FJ62 new and a FJ80 new.

But looking back now, and the horrendous resale of the 80 series, one has to agree, that it has remained a stepchild of the LC family....
