As the title says, I have a 2014 JDM Land Cruiser 200 ZX, it has the smaller UR petrol V8, the 1UR-FE.

Grand total of 300 Bhp and a relatively solid engine so far. I have been looking around for tuning or performance options, as it seems to have a fair bit more to give.

Theres a Harrop TVS1900 supercharger kit that would fit fine and claims a 30 to 40% increase. (8 PSI with standard included pulley)

However, considering the UR head gasket burning issues, I am a little bit hesitant to add pressure to the engine and potentially kill it even earlier.

Anyone with some experience with this engine and adding in some boost pressure?

The UR has been on the road in customer vehicles since 2005, and the first I've heard of head gasket issues was when a particular Youtube video came out recently. I'm not convinced it's an issue.

Supercharger seems pretty fun to me.

do it

The US has had no official supercharger for the 1UR until very recently so I don’t think anyone here will have much experience. Our 1UR has an EGR cooler under the intake manifold so the Harrop kit was not a direct bolt on.

That said, I’d be less worried about the engine and more worried about the transmission behind the 1UR

HKS from Japan has a supercharger kit for 1UR, I think you can have a look. They claim no need for any cutting or permanently modification.

I worked in a dealer for 11 years and never saw a head gasket failure on a 1UR. Social media has a way of swaying our perception of reality. I don't know about the Land Cruiser, but the 3UR and 1UR tundra use the same engine. I say supercharge it!
