I just ordered a ARB for the front diff. of my 87' FJ60, which has stock 3.73 gears in it. However, at the start of next summer i want to do a SOA on it, and put longfields and 5.29 gears in it, will that ARB work with the different gearing and shafts?
thanks,
mark

dont see why not. damn 5.29s what size meats you plan on running?

Well if i graduate with a "B" average my parents are buying me a pickup truck, so im gonna buy a trailer and have the brusier be a trailer queen, so im thinking i can go 5.29's with 37'' boggers since it will only see trail use, or depending on how much lift i get with SOA OME i might go 38'' SX's; but we'll see.

im on 35s and installing 4.88s so its gonna be slow as all hell. so im selling the 35s and getting 37s. 38s would be better if you plan on doing any kind of long trips in the 60 but ya said trailer queen and if thats all its gonna be 37s would be freakin awesome with 5.29s on the trail.

just some info...from some other dude with 4.88s and 35s he said at 55mph he was doing 3grand.

Some recommend 5.29's only for FF axles as there is a fair bit of grinding on the ring gear needed to fit the cross piece for a SF rear end. But that said, others have been running ground 5.29's without problems.

alright thanks for the replies
... im also thinking about putting a detroit in the rear, it doesnt matter what gear is used for them either does it?? maybe i should reconsider 4.88 gears??
later,

Just finished putting 4.88's on ARBs, here's how much you gotta grind off to get the cross-pin out:

You also gotta grind the corners off several gears to get the thrust-block piece in and out:

You'd have to take a LOT more off a 5.29 ring gear. I'd stick with 4.88s.
