Hey guys and girls i am Darren from Tasmaina Austraila just thought i would ask the question on what type off lockers people run and what sort of trouble they have had with em i am currently looking into fitting em in 2 my 60 and was just intrested in what u guys are running bearing in mind i am running a v8 in my girl. The arb air lockers are expensive and was considering mechanical type for mine they are cheeper (500bucks in aus)(260 in the us) just need to get them from the usa to aus some how lol ok guys any recomendations what u would do??

I have a lockrite Locker and it seems to do the job just fine. The only thing that I would say that I do not like is that ever since I put it in I feel like there is extra play in the drive line that I don't know how to get rid of. Makes accelerating from a dead stop some what jerky sometimes.

Other than that it is killer, and inexpensive!!!

Cable lockers?

if you want to go cheap then get a Aussie Locker(pun intended) or a lock right.

fyi you get what you pay for

I think one of the nice things about air (and cable) lockers is that they're only used when needed. If you're in a terrain where you need the traction most of the time an Aussie locker is better.

I would disagree, not that any on cares

I can't think of a single situation a lock-right would be better i then a selectable locker. shot I would weld the rear before I put in a lock-right.

It really all depends on how you drive it.

I have had Loc-Rite's Detroit's and ARB's

I am running the ARB's now. If you have the money they are the best option.

That being said the loc-rite's will hold up if you have upgraded axle shafts and birfs. They do not hold up to the abuse of breaking birfields and axles. The shock load kills them.

The detroit is an awesome unit almost impossible to break ( I have broken one but) they have a tendensy to engauge and disengauge unpredictable sometimes.

I have never owned an aussie locker but have worked on a bunch of them, and they are also a good unit. Basically they are the same as a Loc-Rite but a little stronger and will withstand more abuse.

Another option is a mini spool witch I offer that makes the axles full time posi. It can be good in the back but not som much in the front unless you build with chromoly parts and ram assist steering.

got a link to a mini spool for a cruiser third?

I used a Detroit locker in the rear of my HJ47L truck. It added some noise and intermittant clunks to the operation but I was impressed by the difference when it was needed. The price to traction ratio was fair. Over-all, I would probably not use one again.

I currently have ARB front and rear lockers in a HJ60 at the moment. It's really nice to enjoy open diffs and lock them with the switches. I have had no problems but if I do I am prepared to repair them and keep them operational. Over-all, the ratio of expense to traction is high, and I would probably not use them both again.

For my next rig, (I am building another 60 series) I'll probably install an Aussie locker in the rear and either leave the front open or install a selectable locker up front. I like the price, simplicity and ease of installation of the Aussie locker. It sounds like a great value for the traction!

i have an Aussie up front and a detroit out back.

Aussie locker in the back and very happy with it.

12 bolt was a carrier replacement.

mini spool and C clips = no bueno...

Spool is more predictable than a LR/AL/Det. But, the auto lockers are a hell of a ot easier on tires (depending on driving style)

I would go aussie..

in a LC it would have to be a full float to have a mini spool... so front axle would work and a few lucky people could use em out back and the 80 guys.
i guess the full spool is a carrier replacement?

im interested in pics as well

I believe that it is a 10 bolt 30 spined mini spool

I also ran this in my buggy for a while but it would be more harsh on the pavement.

but definitly the least exspensive of the options

... I personally would weld the rear.

Maybe for a dedicated trailer queen off-roader.

Have you ever driven a vehicle on the street with a welded rear end? Very hard on tires. But I guess if you have money to burn then it doesn't matter... or you live in an area where the roads are not paved ;p

Yep, on my DD. I liked it better than the mechanical locker. My mechanical locker was unpredictable. If I had the $$ I would go with a cable/air/electric locker in the rear. I wouldn't waste money on a mechanical locker or a spool in the rear, that's why I'd weld it.
