General wisdom says the factory Aisin is far superior to the Warn. Your 40 would have come from the factory with driveflanges, the Warns were probably a dealer add or PO installed item.

I have a set of the Warn hubs on my 73 FJ40 that I just purchased. I am trying to figure out what is stock and what is not on my rig. Did the Aisen hubs come from the factory or could my Warn hubs be origional?
Also sorry if I am hi-jacking the thread, but which of the two IYO are the better of the two?
General wisdom says the factory Aisin is far superior to the Warn. Your 40 would have come from the factory with driveflanges, the Warns were probably a dealer add or PO installed item.
They all left the factory with drive plates, no "unlocking hubs".
I believe that warn was standard until 75ish when the splines went from course to fine.
then aisin's became another dealer option.
Dealer options did not mean factory
If I have the course splines would I still be able to put on the Aisin lock outs or would I have to do some mod's?
coarse: composed of relatively large parts or particles
course: a direction or route taken or to be taken
When discussing spline count, it would be coarse vs. fine
of course......................my mistake![]()
Hi All:
Thanks "Pablo!" Where the h*ll did you find that Pampers box?!?
So, of the Aisen lock-outs, what is the difference between the "tall" and "short" models (besides the obvious!)? Are the "short" Aisen hubs the ones used on the solid front axle Hilux & TLC?
Thanks!
Alan

I am rebuilding a set of long body ASCO locking hubs. They are for a 1976 FJ55 axle. I am having a brain fart on re-inserting the short spring that holds the collar to the sliding gear.
Does anyone have a ASCO instruction manual? FWIW- the Hayes manual has a picture showing order of installation , but not enough additional information information for me to get everything back together.
Thanks,
Tim
The long body would have been used from 08/75 to 12/78 on the 40/55 in the USA...
The shorter body was used on 01/79 and later Land Cruisers and solid axle mini trucks...
