Hello all, long time reader, but I don't post much, lots to learn!
I'm hoping someone here (im sure of it) will know all this off the top of there heads.

I have the A343F (G144) auto tranz in the truck, i have the kick down cable as well.
Can i run this automatic tranz with out the ECU? I think I can? pros and cons? I'm trying to make the truck a 2LT and remove the electronics...

the second question, is that it will not kick down very well, i think that's the cable that needs adjusting?

third question, i want to find some alex loading data for the truck, i.e. what weight should the max be on the back end and what it is the max on the front?
With the winch and me looking to put camping stuff in the back, i want to make sure i stay with in the limmits.

A little about my truck, i got her as a trailer loads of bits about 4 years ago, we have just completed a 250km off road club mission with a 1,500km on road bit.
mostly grade 1 and 2, with a little grade 3 work.
yes that is her in the photo, out and about in the old gold workings.
She has the old 2l-TE and factory back locker, factory AC and Factory winch.

So this is the 90 series section which is why you're hearing crickets on your post. Even though yours is a prado, the 90 series prado departed from the 70 series lineage by virtue of being IFS... I can move this to the 70 series section if you want? Plenty of kzj70s and LJ70s over there!

Also... That rig's a beauty! Nice work!

Thanks, also that's a beam axel setup. Yes please move it! Thanks

I can only can only help with the first two questions….

Yes you can use the A343F without an ECU, but as it’s an electronic transmission you will have to manually shift ( this is how my 1KZ converted LJ78 works) you can either mod the shift and OD button or use a shifter like Radesigns. You can get a standalone trans ECU, I have a Spitronics TCU but I haven’t fitted it yet because I like the manual shift.

It’s not a kick down cable it’s for line pressure and can damage the gearbox if it’s not correctly set, I found with my A343F the drive improved a lot with a good service and oil change. If you go manual shift then there is no “kick down”

Thanks! Ok line pressure? Please explain? I was 10 years old when this truck was sold new 🤣.. most of the work shop people around here are younger than me! So they don't know either.

So the line pressure cable controls the oil pressure in the gearbox clutch packs, the up and down shift inc kick down is electronically controlled by the ECU

In terms of vehicle weight, the curb weight listed for the JDM LJ78 was about 1880-1960kg, GVM was 2310-2400kg depending on how it was equipped. I suspect that many of them (my own included) often carry quite a bit more than that. That said, I have never had mine across any scale to see how much it actually weighs but hope to soon. No mention of individual axle load ratings. Based on individual wheel scale readings I saw years ago they have almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution when unladen, so likely the bulk of additional weight from carrying a load would end up on the rear axle.
