im thinking instead of just going for a spring over on my 60, im going to go for the full rockcrawling suspension and link it with coil overs. i have been looking for a few days now on threads on someone that has done this for some guidance but i have not found any, any imputs are appreaceated.

also what year power steering from a pick up is good to swap in to a 60? what parts do i need?

Well, using words like full rockcrawler and fj-60 dont really go together... dont get me wrong there are a few out there but not many. Most people steer away from using a 60 for a crawler because there are alot better platforms to start from. Now if you plan to fully commit and cut up your 60 its a lot more feasible.

The second part has me confused since a 60 already has power steering.

Have you searched over at pirate4x4.com? They do 4-links all day long.

You planning on making a dedicated crawler out of this?

If not, there is a significant chance that your links will handle much poorer on the road than the springs would. Mostly because of design limitations that you run into because you are trying to retrofit things..

I have done a wishbone 3 link on the rear of my 60. I am very happy with it. But it is not setup for rockcrawling..

I just got done doing my 4 link I will try to take pics tomorrow I cut the whole back off of mine in front of the hump where the seat belts bolt down to. Everything is cut off and caged. I regret even starting with this platform I have already sunk way to much money into this thing and wished I would have just built a full on tube chasis and been done with it.

Here are some pics that might help you

I still need to cut some more frame off but I am kind of using it as a bump stop for the air shocks

start post with yours I would love to see more pics

I think my 60 is a good to fair rock crawler BUT its chopped and smashed ... I run it cause I need seating for 4 and most the time 2 of-em are kids so the doors are nice .... but its square peg in a round hole most of the time .... so I hope you hate your body work cause it goin to get jacked up :steer::meh:

post up pics as you go

Agreed, motorman we are going to need more pics. Kling-on... you know I love ya. Don't get me wrong... lord knows I'm overbuilding my 60 and mine will more than likely end up a crawler. My only point is that buying a sixty to make a crawler is the hard way to do things.

SOA front, 4-link rear... good set-up for offroad plus good road manners...

What happened to those 1-ton axles you picked up? On hold for your engine buildup?

I'm not letting the cat out of the bag yet but good things are in the works if everything goes to plan. I'll be adding it to my ROTW here soon.

Here's a teaser...

If you want to keep it full bodied, I think you will have to use coils or a 1/4 eliptic. Coil-overs are going to be a bit too tall without angling them severely. Of course to angle them enough to fit under the body, you would really have to spend some time tuning them because they will be way too soft.

Or use rocker arms and open up a huge can-o-worms that no one really wants to mess with.

It is exceedingly rare to see a linker that isn't a trailer queen. IMHO if you want links you should start with a stack o tubes and not a 60.

It all depends .. a full dedicated hard core rock crawler .. mmm but if you are planing to do some trips and get some rocks .. a 60 could do perfect ..

I will simplificate some things with a SO + soft spring pack + cuting flares to keep the GCC as low as posible.
