I read some great post here about lifting the front of my 100 to get rid of the stink bug. Would it be ok to simply turn the torsion bolts three full times and do nothing else?

Sorry for the easy question.

Great write up. Looks like you do a crank of four full rotations on the bolts to lift it. If that doesn't work you need to do additional work which I'm not going to try.

Well you're also going to need an alignment. An obvious answer but just want to make sure you know that. There are also specific measurements you need to take, not just crank the bars and assume all is ok

Do a search for "caster" to read about issues with lifting too far. Also, make sure you plan the diff drop kit or you'll get CV boot issues from the increased angles.

Don't do it. The 100 wants to have at least 1" of forward rake, preferably closer to 1-1/2". If you level it, she's going to pull to the right under acceleration. It's just a function of the full-time 4WD and the suspension geometry.

Thanks for the tips. Seems more complicated than I thought. I think I will let the mechanic look into it, if I do it at all.
Thanks again

It's not complicated at all. Get a 30mm socket and twist. It just produces some undesirable driving qualities that can't be tuned out with an alignment. If your mech doesn't have experience with the 100s he won't know this. Trust MUD. Most of us have tried to do the same thing you're wanting to do, thought it looked great at first but then got fed up with the wandering truck and put it back to a 1" or greater rake. Just lifting it will make it wander a bit, but the worst case is when she's level.

Some guys like to blow this droop/travel/cv angle out of proportion. If your trucks torsion bars are sagging. Get a breaker bar and a 30mm socket and turn them a few times. You do need to lift the front wheels off the ground to get the weight off the front suspension. If you keep it within a half inch you will be fine without an alignment for a week or so. It is best to get one. If you are thinking about a lift in the future, find a shop and buy a lifetime or 2 year alignment plan and you can play around with lift height and find your perfect height.

Had alignment done after installing the OME lift. Read elsewhere it is possible to realize additional front end lift after alignment. For me, the front end came up 1/2 inch after alignment; much more than I anticipated.

With the 1/2 inch additional lift, I'm sitting almost level. I'm considering lowering the front by turning the torsion bars.

I expect a little drop in the front after installing a front bumper, then eventually a winch. Don't believe this will improve droop as the additional weight from the bumper will not change down travel of the front suspension....correct?

As for drivability, will the weight of the front bumper suffice for creating a little more rake than I currently have? Again, I'm almost level (if not exactly level) and expect a 1/4 inch drop in the front end from a bumper.

Is an aligned necessary after installing a front bumper?

Thanks

Personally I like mine level after the OME install with diff drop. Drives great no pull. I think the 100 looks better level JMHO

After a few months of driving with the front end almost level, I lowered the front end to almost 1 inch rake. I do prefer the look of the land cruiser level front and rear. I never had any significant pull when accelerating with the front level (maybe very, very minor under hard acceleration). What was bugging me was the land cruiser seemed to to find uneven surfaces in the road and track or pull towards them with, what seemed like, more force (or gravitational pull as my wife describes). Never experienced this before the lift. Haven't driven it since lowering the front end last night, but am anxious to see if there is any improvement.

If you're adding a winch, bumper, etc - many others recommend upgrading torsion bars. Not sure what you're running, and not a path I've been down, but thought I'd throw it out there

Thanks. I have OME shocks and torsion bars with Slee heavy springs (went with heavy springs as I also have a Slee rear bumper with swing outs) And diff drop. Originally, I had planned for and set a 1/2 inch rake when installing the suspension. When I had it aligned, I gained an additional 1/2 inch lift which made the front end level with the rear. Ended up liking the level look, and with no plans in the short term for a drawer system or RTT, decided to keep it level. As mentioned above, it seemed to want to track towards and into uneven areas of the road. Decided last night to lower the front end to see if it helps. Will likely be installing a front bumper (ARB or TJM) in the near future. So, plan on waiting on doing another alignment until after it is installed and the final front end height is set.
