I know this is on a really, really old post, but why do some pictures stay on the old posts and others are no longer there. I've been searching like a wild man to try and learn as much as possible, only to find references to pics with NO pics...?

That's pretty funny....finally someone that knows how to use the search button only to find out that none of the pics are in the archives.....

I think that they get erased when someone needs extra space to post new pics. Also if you remote link your pictures and the site you link gets taken down or is no longer kept up they will not show up.


I have had the same problem with old posts showing how people fixed the holes left by the roof rack, namely Cdan's posts.
Also this was a cool thread maybe it should be revived!?!?!

I'm trying really hard to search first, ask second. I've seen how some guys get torn apart like chum when they want the members to do their work for them. But it has been a little (read: very) frustrating to find a thread and most or all the pics are GONE.... Why have the thread stay there if the pics are gone? I've seen the "This thread is useless without pics" but that's true later as well.

I'll bet the Cheerleader thread keeps its pics...or maybe that's why we need more room for pics?? Hmmmm.

It could be a couple different things...
At one time there was either a server, software, or database upgrade. Most, if not all the pics did not survive the upgrade -- I don't recall the specific reason...but regardless...they're gone.

Another could be due to a member who posted a pic, but is not a site contributor (i.e. does not have a "star") If you are not a contributing member, there's a limit to the number of pics you can post. Once these members start deleting pics to make room for new pics on more current threads, the old threads/posts suffer because of it.

Doug has pretty much nailed it.

1) Older photos were lost a couple of forum upgrades back.

2) Remote-linked stuff may or may not still have valid links.

3) "Base" members can only store a few photos and must delete old ones to make room for new.


Also, when reading older threads you will see #5*?**# sort of stuff that does not make much sense. That is old smiley code that is not supported on this release. So, you miss some of the old, good, smilies......but this one flipoff2: ) is alive and well...
