I am trying to determine how much lift was added to my recently purchased fj40. What is the stock shackle length - bolt center to bolt center?

Thx Bill

Thx for the quick reply - mine is a Nov78.

Thx for the links - that is some good info. and I didn't find your thread with a search nor had I seen the info. at sor.

Final question - so when someone says a 3" lift - I had always understood that to be "stock + 3 inches" - is that true or is it the shackle size?

Ok, not that I am a bone head but to just make sure....

My '78 FJ40 has 4.25" shackles on it front and rear as installed by a PO. The stock shackles for a '78 are 2.75" so my lift is 1.5"?

Thx for the help - all of this is so I can discuss a couple of other issues intelligently....

thx Bill

I would say for argument sake... If somebody said they have a 3" lift they are talking about 2.5" lift springs and extended shackles ... In your case a shackle providing .75" of lift... For an actual total lift of 3.25" .... But... Start adding all our crap inside our rigs it's a 3" lift :)

Clear as mud?

Common spring sizes are 2.5" lift or 4" lift

Hope that helps further :)

Do you have any pics? What tire size do you have?
