Hi all,

I bought some 4" LED trailer lights, to replace the stock tailights on the back of my fj40. I figured the stockers were going to get ripped off sooner or later.

The LED lights have a white, black and red wire. I grounded the white to the frame, and connected the other two to the stock wire bullet connectors.

The turn signals and brake lights work fine. However, when I turn the headlights on, the LED's come on full blast, and the turn and brake signals don't work (or can't be seen?).

Question- do I need to add resistor(s) to the stock lines to take into account the lower voltage requirements of the LED lights?

Howdy! Have you tried reversing the Red and Black wires? John

You have your tail and brake light wires reversed. The brake circuit is currently connected to the dimmer LED (should be the tail light) and when you turn on the tail lights the brighter LED that you are currently wired to is coming on overpowering the brake/turn light. Try reversing the red and black like inkpot said. By reversing them you'll have the tail on the dimmer LED and the brake on the brighter LED as they should be.

Good Luck, you'll like the LED's.

Bingo! Thanks guys. I like the way they turned out a bunch. Less likely to get ripped at Cruise Moab!

No idea- that was on the vehicle when I bought it. It's pretty darn bright for single bulb, which I just hooked up to a switch in the cab to turn on/off as needed.
