I have a question that I would like some experienced opinions on, fully understanding they are just opinions. Do you think I would be okay with a 3/8" socket cap grade 8 bolt for a center pin. 3/8" is about .375", the 10mm that is there (I think) is about .393". The 3/8" just seems a little sloppy in the , that is more than the existing center pin. The socket cap could work because it is easily had. The springs are stock height rear fj62 leafs used . I am cleaning them up for a SOA on my fj40. Any thoughts?

I would take the time to do it right and get a 10mm socket cap with appropriate nut from McMaster-Carr or Fastenal. Figure the length you need, or just get them in a length that you know is longer than what you need, install, then cut to length.

Also if you haven't disassembled your leaf springs yet and haven't done it before, C-clamps are your friends.

Go to the nearest spring shop and get the right bolt. These are designed with proper fitment tolerances, as well as proper hardness. The depth of the center bolt head is also by design. Not a good place for substitution. You're not saving money. Can't cost that much.

While I agree that replacements from sor or the like don't cost much, immediate availability can be a concern. I'm using some grade 10 (iirc) socket cap bolts as a replacement. 8k miles and a bunch of that off road, no issues.
