Dear r3run33, the setup is holding pretty solid. Much easier to stack, strap the stuff around and nothing flies into your head while dune bashing. I used 15mm plywood, (had a look at 16,18,20mm, initially) which makes the whole platform not so heavy yet sturdy enough to bolt around. I think addition of L-tracks was a super idea, and i'm thinking to make one pull out drawer at the spot of fridge slider (so I can still use my single 3rd row seat ! ). Other than that just chilling around and looking to put my finger on a good snorkel (TJM or safari ?) ...

Ahhhhhh..... Desert Nomad ... What's the deal on this beauty ? (Just saw a PIC ) ....

I actually met the guy with parts for the Merc; he says they are considering bringing the 4 wheel one as a AMG version. I don't know about the reliability of these "portals" things which are put actually on the axels. Do you guys know anyone with these trucks? Just question the reliability of these. Actually this is silly I can't afford it anyway LOL They have a mule thats been running in Las Vegas area doing testing etc

now I'm not 100% sure but I think these started with Arctic trucks when they did the polar expedition stuff; they needed help with carry jet fuel for the airplanes and fuel for the Hilux they used and the weight of the actual fuel was to much for the regular Hilux. Then it trickled down to other vehicles. Now I have seen many pics of the Merc and that thing is just way to complicated for my opinion to be 1000 miles or even a 1000 kilometers from civilization and have a break down etc. Now the 70 series is much more simple and being able to work on these maybe more easier.

ANn this one is very special - parked at 215m dune as we climbed up all the way to one of the biggest dune (290m high). The slip face was 202m, the the longest and the heart wrenching I ever took... all the dunes in the background look so 'small' .. .. ..
