Anyone know where I can find the later series dashboard complete? I am talking VDJ79 or similiar.

Needs to be R/H drive. New or used, depends on price.

Do people generally prefer the plastic airbag dashboard to the pre 09-10 metal dash?

In many ways the most desirable (IMO) 70-series are 2007-2009 - wide-nose, possibly with 1VD engine, but metal dash.
Thanks, that's what I was thinking. Drooling over HZJ78s. Coil fronts, Wide nose but tons of space under hood, with a classic dash.

nt to derail the thread,,, but i was never a fan of the 60 series cruiser, and as such, not really a fan of the wide nose,,,

but thats just my visual preference, the vehicle is amazing.

Would you say that you prefer the older narrow nose because it resembles the 40 series, or it just on it's own whole looks better to you?

awesome question,,, i've wanted a Troopy since i was a teenager, having seen them in Australia and Africa doing safari things, only narrow nose back then, but i couldnt afford to import one.

i wanted one enough that the only land cruisers ive owned have been the FJ55, it was my poor mans Troopy i guess. so for me the narrow nose is more just a nostaligia thing, but now i have one !!

hey Gotoy,,,, do you not have them in Malaysia? i mean, to look in a junkyard or similar.

maybe hit up inmate Birdiya (sp?) he is in the middle east junkyard scene and can maybe get you sorted.

I guess I'm in the minority but I like the new dash. More storage. Better ventilation.....larger head unit.....way better steering wheel. I didn't care for it at first but now I prefer it I think......although the steel dash kind of feels like home for some reason.

do you have both styles in your 79's? If so maybe could you post up a pic of each on here? I think it would be neat to see both styles side by side so to speak.

All things equal, with a “wide nose” Cruiser, I would prefer the modern dash.

Ask and ye shall receive. Both bodies are 2009s....new dash happened in 07 I believe....these were both steel dash cabs.

Must have been built for some market that still got the steel dash. Or maybe Toyota just used what they had in stock like they did in the old days with the FJ40s....a mix of new and old :)

I’ve always found the addition of the “black out” strip on the new dash windshields to be interesting.

Thanks for the pictures! Steel dash looks to have alot more character. but that might be the tan vs gray. Both of your trucks look great, I especially like the color-coordinated shag seat cover.

From my limited searching it looks like the dual front airbag(new dash) became standard in 07-2009 for the 2010 model year. I read some of your #2 thread, and as you found, the firewall is the same. Looks like you had to modify the fuse box mounting area. Lucky find on that complete HVAC/Instrument cluster with the later dash. And great plastic patching restoration work
