Largest Tire size in Stock spare location

I was about to purchase a Wilco Tire Carrier thinking I wasn't going to be able to fit my 305/60-18 in the stock location but held out till I got the tire and good thing because the tire fits in the stock spare tire location. I wasn't able to find anything on the web to confirm this but hopefully this helps those wondering.

295/70 r18 is about the largest tire that will fit in the stock location. you have to remove a small stamped steel wedge for the wheel to sit level against the cross bar, but it will clear the track bar by 3/4".

I fit my 305/55/20 in the spare location just fine. It measures 33.2" (to your 33.4") diameter, and looked like there was still enough space for a tad taller tire.

I think you'll be fine. Just remove the stamped steel wedge that TexAZ mentioned.

This is optional, but 305s are wide (12.3" on my Falken ATW3), I shimmed the carrier up by ~.25" with some wide washers.

Been perusing this site over 5 years and two rigs. The info herein has been of value. This is my first post after finally joining IH8MUD & Copper State Cruisers yesterday. Figure to ease in by offering some objective, hopefully helpful, analysis.

tiresize.com has been one of my go-to resources over the years. They have a comparison feature that helps simplify size calcs. Understanding how technically competent (and friendly) most members are on this forum, the following might be remedial. But, think it will help some fellow perusers who may have this question.

305/60R18 is roughly a 32.4" diameter tire w 12" of width. (give or take, depending on tread pattern & manufacture.)

295/70R18 is ~34.3" in diameter w/ ~11.6" of width.

Therefore, 305/60R18 should theoretically fit in the stock spare location given 295/70R18 fits, per TexAZ. The 305s should just hang down ~0.4" more than the 295s in the stock spare location.

@FellowMembers - if the above logic is flawed, education is welcomed.

Tiresize.com is my go to website to compare tire sizes. been super helpful switching between metric and "merican" tire sizes. I run 35/11.50r20 tires and a 295/65/20 spare, with a second spare 295/70/18 under the truck.

Does anyone have a picture of the stamped steel wedge ? Just want to know what to look for when I lower the spare, will it be obvious and what is the best way to remove it ?

It will be obvious once you get under there. 2 bolts hold it on. Forgot if they are 12mm or 14. Socket and ratchet should be enough to remove them.

Looking under there, it looks like that wedge may keep the spare from snugging up against that nice important looking black box above it. Anyone done the checks to see if it does and if it is a problem?

So, found out the Rock Warrior wheels are not able to be hoisted into the spare wheel well location. The inner circumference of the rock warrior wheel is too small for the stock bar at the end of the chain to fit through.

Anyone run across any creative solutions?

Cutting that sleeve is the easy way. Other option is buying an assembly for a 16+, apparently the sleeve on them isn't as long.

I just fit a worn 285/75/R18 with a few mm to spare at the panhard bar. If it was new it wouldn't have fit. It's less than 6 years old with 1/2 tread life left.

It's currently a nice diameter match for the 295/70/R18s I just mounted - both are a hair over 34". It's fairly wide, so it's noticeable below the bumper.

It'll do until I find a better spare.
