What is the largest tire I can put on without any lift? I am changing out my stock wheels with 16" wheels.

Own a Sawzall? :eek::hillbilly:

I'm told that a 33-10.50 on the stock wheels will sometimes fit an IFS truck w/ no lift. Didn't decide to try it myself. 31-10.50's fit fine.

Man, I would stick with 31" tires.

Yup, 31s. Pretty sure 28s are stock size.

Concur, 31s are best for stock springs. 33/9.5s or something skinny like that will roll, but any flex and you are rubbing something somewhere:meh:

I ran 255/85-16 on stock alloys on an 89 with torsion bars a little cranked and pinch weld beat down.
Basically same size as 33x10.50x15 but a whole lot heavier.
285/75-16’s rubbed a lot

I'm running 35s, could go 37 or 38". When IFS I ran 33's. Sounds like you need to do a bit of research.

You need to research:
What is intended use?
BUDGET?
Are you gonna regear?
Price of 17" tires has come way down compared to 16".

Uh, without any lift? They might fit, but the truck won't work well. Shoot, my 33's rub with 4" lift.

You forgot "How much am I willing to cut up the truck?" because tires as large as yours needed it to clear.

True, also didn't mention wheel back spacing. Also width of tire can play a factor.

Did miss without a lift part.

Guy on yotatech is on 35's without a lift but has trimmed quite abit. He did a good job not all hacked. I ran 33s with a torsion bar crank, pinch weld grind, and small fender trimming, rims had IFS backspacing.

Tire manufacturer makes a difference too, as well as rim width. I was using 8" width rims (poorman beadlocks) with tires that were truer size 33's than other manufacturers. Have seen 33x12.5 mounted on 10" rims that looked much shorter compared side by side; were also different tire manufacturers.

Sometimes unfortunately its trial and error if your going for the largest tire and not always a tell me "what fits." As weight on suspension will play a role too. 31's will probably the safest bet.

I initially trimmed and ran 35’s, but run 37’s. No lift, lots of trimming, stock IFS. Running 15x8 steel rims with 3.5” backspacing.

jtaco1 - Are those American eagle Wheels your running?

Not sure, they could be any of the standard steel 15x8 rims that are available. I got them in trade for a set of FJ40 rims. I did have to grind the outer edge of the brake calipers slightly for them to clear.
