Mine is a 2008 lx so not sure..

I wish I had tried it before cutting mine to confirm. I just did this today to get the spare mounted, assuming I had to.

Although, I did also spend a lot more time moving the whole spare tire assembly up 1/2” to tuck the tire up as much as possible (like the old 80 series trick). And cutting the small tube was no time at all compared to everything else I did.

All for 1/2” o_O

I see it as something for me to do tinkering on my truck. I really enjoy it at times running into problems then giving up ten times in the process and figuring it out eventually. Yippee fun

Yes, I completely agree. I almost always "figure it out", and that process is enjoyable. I squeaked a 285/75R17 up into that space. Could possibly move the back edge up another 1/4", but I'm not sure the winch bar would still engage.

Did you have UCAs ? I was trying to get 75s but erred on the side of caution and went with 70 just incase they rubbed. I don’t have UCAs yet. Just wondering TIA

This is one of the summer tires I'll use as a spare over the winter while the studded tires are on it. About the same height as the winter tires I'm running. I'm running a 3/4" spacer on the front to clear the UCA and think the 75 series will also clear, but I suppose I should test it to make sure it will work as a spare on the front. I was mostly thinking about height clearance. I'll get back to you on it...

View attachment 1812254 Quick tip I’ve attached which tube cutter I used. I got it at Lowe’s $10 bucks. Get this size it works almost perfect. It fits just shy of clearing the tabs on it. After cutting into it a little when you adjust to cut deeper it clears. So that it won’t hit the tabs and with a little force you can cut the part that wasn’t cut and it’ll go all the way around. I bought one and it was to big so I had to go back and exchange it to the smaller one.
Thanks for the tip. I picked one up at Lowes and it worked as advertised. I used my Dremel to cut off the detached piece and shot the area in question with 2 coats of Rustoleum Rust Reformer.

My 2015 LX also has a different hanger - one tab, shorter cross bar. It fits through a RW without modification. I think LXs don't need this mod.

This is the spare tire winch I have on my 2015 LX 570. It fits the Rock Warrior Edition 17" wheels without modification:

Definitely different than the one in my '15 LC (see post #32). That's crazy that they changed for something so seemingly insignificant.

Yup, they are definitely different. I think the “early LC” one is theoretically more secure, as the cross piece is longer. It’s possible that the LX always had the no-mod version and 16+ LCs got it. Looking at parts guides should show it. A cursory glance shows that the no-mod version has been OEM on LXs since at least MY2013. (And sounds like 2008 based on the thread).

For the record, in case that Partsouk picture is taken down, the no-mod spare carrier assembly p/n is 51900-60322.

A little late to the party but I referenced this thread before replacing the spare on my '14 LX and assumed I would also have the "no mod" version of the carrier. However, mine had the same wider version as earlier posts in this thread and had to be trimmed to fit. Exception or the norm? Who knows, but thought it may be helpful for other LX owners.

Mysterious. Maybe they have two subcontracted suppliers and they order from both and just mount whichever one is on top of the stack when they're building that specific truck?

Just another data point, my 18’ LX looks like the one in post #50; so no trimming required 😃

I don't really like the idea of cutting the sleeve and having it look like a hack job, nor do I have easy access to a welder to weld a chain link. But I was thinking one of these (attachment) might do the trick. But I'm not sure if it will work with the assembly that draws the chain up.View attachment 1149139
That's what I did. Cut the chain, used a forged link. No issues.

@MTKID thanks for the post, this is useful info. Did you need to modify anything underneath to fit the 285/75/17 up there? Me thinks that looks like a Discoverer AT3 XLT (run them on everything here in Houston, great tires) and they typically err a bit on the 'smaller' side. Planning to go with the 285/75 but wanted to run the traps on making sure they'll fit up underneath in the spare location. Some minor 'adjustments' are okay, but don't want to hack up anything too bad. 🫡

Yes, it fit without too many issues. I did trim off a couple metal brackets on the inside of the rear most crossmember. Not much work, and if I remember, I did this to try to move the spare tire up underneath the rig a little further, not just to fit that size.
