On July 28, I went with the NM 4 Wheelers to La Ventana Mesa east of Hwy 550 on the way to Cuba, NM. This was my first off-roading in my GX. Quantum Kiwi went also in his 4-Runner. Most people on the ride had not been into this area. Great mesas and canyons that are not noticeable from the highway. Great cool-weather camping spots, lots of great views. Here are a few pictures of the area.

And more La Ventana pictures... Alex and I had a good time wheeling and checking out a new area that we both want to come back to in the future.

I climbed Cabezon once about 12 years ago. At my limit of technical climbing. Glad I did it. La Ventana area would be a great area to camp and hike, mountain bike, when it is cooler. Temps were 91 in the afternoon. Alex found some nice secondary roads later in the day. He needed to get to Los Alamos, so he and I split off the main group and explored our way out into the Jemez Mts. I hope to get some camping back in there this fall. Anyone interested???
