KZJ78 1KZ-TE Weird Start Up Noise (2 Viewers)

This noise isn’t consistent, I have had it happen three times at this point.

Best guess is maybe the starter motor is being slow to retract the gear and it’s still engaging the flywheel.

Anyone have any insight or similar experience.

So myself and others feel like it was a high possibility of the motor mounts being warn. I should have all the parts to replace them Monday.

But this also started and I did not hear it before on the return trip even though I ran the AC the whole time.

There is a squeal that is happening at 3k RPM with the AC on video below.

New motor mounts and two new batteries and fingers crossed it stays like this.

The motor mounts themselves got rid of the random really loud chatter but occasionally it was still starting hard so tested the batteries and one was bad so I replaced them both.

My wife commentary adds to the mood.

Hello, I have a 70 with that engine (manual transmission), and I have never had a similar noise, and like you, I changed the engine mounts, I rebuild the starter (the 2.7 Kw version).
what sounds in your engine is like a lubrication failure, or that something was dry inside.

You could start by checking the cover valve and see how the camshafts are.
