I'm looking at some Wiper ring protectors from a place called Trail-Gear.

They are a beefier(thicker metal)but I noticed from the description that they are only for Toyota's with Solid Axles from 1979-1985.

Are the 86 and 87's Wiper ring protectors different?

Here's the link:

Trail-Gear Inc > Steering Knuckle Service Parts & Tools

Scroll down and look for "Rock-Ring Knuckle Felt Protectors"

Thanks!

They are good stuff.

Yea they are all the same. Mini trucks went to IFS in 86 so they are listed only good to 85 because of the minis.

Great! I thought so, but I thought maybe the bolt configuration might be a little different.

I'm installing a set on my 89 today.... they are super beefy.

Did you happen to take any pictures of the finished product?

I'm going to order some tonight.

Thanks

I put them on my '89 when I did my inner axle seal replacement (for the second time) this past summer. Anything to help keep the grease in :)

If you happen to be in your knuckles to replace your inner axle seals another excellent product is Marlin's heavy duty axle seals (half way down on this page: Marlin Crawler : Heavy Duty Axle Parts and Accessories). I used these this time around, really nice design, highly recommended.

Ordered them with the rebuild kit last week!

I wish I would of put those on when I did my KRJ...oh well... guess I'll install them in 15 or 20 years from now when I rebuild them again....:flipoff2::flipoff2:

You could install them by just removing the 8 bolts per side no major disassembly it would take 10 min per side.

The Marlins are about $10 each as I recall and worth every penny. I would have paid fifty bucks if I had known that the stupid grease hemorage would be gone for good! A five-star product if ever there was one!

I've got the knuckle wiper rings from trail-gear. I had a problem installing them with the stock bolts, so I bought new bolts that were 5mm longer. It gets more threads into the knuckle to secure the wiper a little better....

Just a thought...:cheers::cheers:

What year is your 60? I talked to them on Friday and they said they don't work on post 85 rigs. The bolt holes don't line up on 86 and newer FJ60's....

I think you got some bad info. I strongly believe (99.999% sure) that all fj 60/62 knuckles are the same. Let some of the others chime in.

That's what I thought but wanted to make sure. I guess if they won't work for me, I could always offer them to someone on here who could use them.

Thanks

Once again, they are displaying their lack of knowledge about their products.

:meh:

DJ -
Mind posting up the size, thread pitch, & length of your new bolts? My "new" 62 front axle is in pieces & I don't trust being able to identify the likely culprits as they are hiding in multiple baggies.

I too want to get these but want to make sure they will fit. JL please let us know if they work for you. My build date is 05/86

Jose... if you buy them and they do not fit... I'll buy them off of yah.....
