Having had the misfortune of the lower steering arm studs shearing, if any one else has this problem, you can make up a little tool out of the old sheared off stud (see image)
I had two sheared off studs in the knuckle housing, so the full strip down was needed.
When I drilled the broken studs out and as the drill bit dug in, it screwed the offending stud out into the housing, which was handy, but when I tried to screw the new studs into the housing, I could not get the new studs to start in the holes where the broken studs had come from as the first 2 threads were knackered, and the new stud kept trying to go in crooked, I know the threaded holes are 12mm but here in the UK I could not find a suitable tap to clear the thread, standard 12mm thread is I think 2mm pitch here and I think the thread in the knuckle is 1.50mm pitch, I had access to 1.25mm pitch taps but that was to fine.
So what I did was to weld an 8mm x 30mm screw to the old broken stud that had come out of the housing, I also cut with a hack saw a slice out of the thread, so it acted as a tap to clear any debris in the hole your tapping out, obviously you have to screw the made up thread clearing tool from the inside of the knuckle housing, out towards the damaged thread to clear it,
It workd really well and cleared the burrs, but remember to add some sort of anti seize paste while doing it.
It worked for me and just wanted to pass on any info.
