Knocking noise after oil change (1 Viewer)

Rod knock or what "they" call the "Toyota TICK", is common. More so in the USA 4.7L built engine. Check your engine VIN#, see if it match your vehicle. I've heard much worst and engine has run fine, for 100s of thousand of miles. I could be you just now notice what has been there.

Until you hear the metallic "TWANG" of a rod snapping and trying to escape the block ..... send it.

Leave these Negative Nancy thoughts for the //M owners who survive on 10W-60 sludge, er, oil and go replace parts when 1 ppb of Cu/Pb shows up in an oil analysis.

I will check the engine VIN in the morning, I feel so much better. Thank You.

Could it be the exhaust manifold starting to leak? I know mine sounds like a tick.
I thought of that too, but from the video I saw with exhaust tick they were a little different than this

Any chance any of the foil seal on oil jug or quart wasn’t completely removed and may have ended up in engine maybe blocking a passageway

try changing to 10w30 and a new filter and see if the noise goes away. let us know

I dont think so but if it did it would be hard to know, the seals on valvoline was a little different. It had a ring which helped in taking it off completely.

I wouldn't be concerned with this and there shouldn't be a need to change your oil viscosity. You can try posting another audio clip but it didn't sound that bad. The ticking is not a concern , the deep chugging noise I hear sounds kind of normal but hard to tell in video.

The biggest clue you gave was that you drove several hundred miles since you first heard the noise. If your oil flow was restricted or somethjng was wrong in the engine you wouldn't have made it that far.

Looking at the pulleys and belt do you see anything wobbling ?
Is your oil level still where you filled it to ? Have you driven or let it run any longer since you first heard the noise ?

How about fuel, any chance you have a tank of crappy fuel , although our rigs can adjust to regular fuel maybe try to run a tank of 91.

I have not changed oil since then. The oil level is good and it is fresh looking since I changed it couple of days ago. I have driven it couple of times locally and drove it 200 miles today. I did not notice any change in engine tempe while driving but I am a little wary of pushing it like I used it.

While being on high alert for any noise while driving I did notice rotational thumping when I let go of gas. I suspect the CV are going bad and it has nothing to do with this. They also make a lot of noise when under load especially after the lift.

I did take off the belt and inspected every pulley for wobble. I could not find anything, I changed all the pulleys and tensioner with OEM when I did the timing belt.

I have always used premium fuel except recently I started using regular. I filled it up with couple of days ago and its now time to full up again.

I am also going to Lexus tomorrow, and hopefully it will not be a problem.

I appreciate you helping me thru this.

ok so oil still looks good , idler and tensioner are new. I would think if something went wrong with your timing belt job or lack of oil would have been known by now since you've been driving jt.

Maybe the knocking is due to your recent change in fuel octane and your computer still adjusting for it . Just a guess of course but I'm still not convinced anything major is happening as far as your engine concern goes based on what we know so far.

For the most part that sounds exactly like my 1UZ VVTi. There’s a wooden “pop” sound I’m hearing at the top of the motor, but that sounds like lifter/intake noise.

Update:

Lexus tech said it is not rod knock and he could not isolate the noise. I showed him the video and the customer rep assured me that his master tech is really good and if he says there is nothing he trusts him.

They said it idles smooth both under load and when idling. They also did not charge me anything for the diagnosis which was awesome. I heard someone say that's awesome truck on my dash cam. It always surprises me how many people like these.

I am excited for my trip on Friday, and I also got a job after applying and interviewing countless times in the past 5 months so that's a plus.

Good to hear, enjoy the time off and proceed with peace of mind knowing the motor isn't about to explode
