Disable the EGR in place, way easier and just as effective. I did the same thing on my 94' shortly after purchase since it also had code 71. That was 45k miles ago and the code hasn't come back.

Thanks dude. I am probably going to do that first. Did you have any air/fuel issues after disabling?Disable the EGR in place, way easier and just as effective. I did the same thing on my 94' shortly after purchase since it also had code 71. That was 45k miles ago and the code hasn't come back.

I can't think of any way to get them tucked away without at least removing the bottom mount bolt, then maybe using zip ties, or one of those Velcro extension cord straps to keep it held in tight to the corner?
Anything "better" or even more tucked away would entail about the same time as removal.
Also, I think for our OBD1 trucks, the resistor is not needed.?. I have read a lot of egr threads though and may be remembering wrong.

EGR Temp Sensor Test Plug
Hi Everyone, I figured I would post up a small project I have been pulling together mainly to satisfy my curiosity about EGR bypass, testing, and making it look good. Many of us have experienced the P0401 or P0402 code and normally it is an EGR related issue. As you will come to find out...forum.ih8mud.com
Remove the seatbelts, put in bag and store with 3rd row seats. It doesn't take more than 10 minutes to put them back in if needed.
Also IIRC you need to block the vacuum line on the other egr actuator that comes off the intake manifold runner.
PO claimed that he had just recently done the valve cover gasket. The bolts on the valve cover look pretty new... Any prior known work on it?
Ripping out the carpet is a pretty straightforward job. Just make sure to not break the tabs on any of the trim panels you pull off. I removed everything to clean underneath it. Used vodka on the seats and seatbelts to kill the mold spores. The jute under the carpet is the biggest pain. Make sure to use a metal scrapper and some strength. A little simple green helped loosen up the hard to get parts. That is a bear of a job. I've been chasing some leaks and will probably pull the carpet and install the vinyl floor liner soon once I line up all the misc parts I need. Any tips?
