I installed a Kenwood 7160 in the 100. I've look alot all the available double din Head unit. And for me Kenwood being the only one that uses Garmin for GPS was a no brainer, The unit has a sd card reader, when i found out that you can load it with all kind of maps using garmin mapsource...i ordered it right away.

I was facing a wiring mess....i have the dash HDJ 4 speakers harness with floor harness of a UZJ with JBL setup.

Somehow the previous HDJ owner had cut the radio harness. BUT luckly i had the EWD in hand and could figure out the mess.

Those two are from the UZJ. The big one is the antenna the other one....i have no idea, if you know let me know.

Finsh look, doesn't need any trim fits perfectly. You can beat this setup with any GPS out there. To have a 7" GPS you need to go in Marine GPS and cost of a marine GPs is well over the cost of the kenwood.

I just bought a 8gb sd card i will load it with all kind of maps i have.

Once you have you Iphone setup with the Kenwood using bluetooth (yes the kenwood is bluetooth) each time you simply jump in the truck the Kenwood detect the Iphone and connect, then all calls are through the Unit! no need to hook a cable or do anything.

I'd be very interested to see how a 24k topo looks on that!

I'm building a mapset for the sd card. Once done i'll go and take pictures. But the only topo i have are the Canada Ibycus topo.

Here is a picture from a fjcruiser forum with USA topo from Garmin.

So it looks like those are 50k resolution maps? How do you switch between the built-in maps for road navigation and the offroad topos? Reboot or can you do it on the fly?

I've been wanting to install the same or similar model in my truck, replacing my DDX7015 with external nav brain. Nice.

Nice! That may be just the ticket.

The only downside is the theft risk! I end up leaving the truck in places where it would be an easy target. Like snowshoeing up of Hwy 35 today. Do y'all worry about that side of it? I suppose windshield-mounted nav is just as much of a risk, except you can hide that.

i dunno about that. a) I park in the garage :). and b) it's fairly notorious in the NW at least for stuff to get stolen at the more popular outdoor POIs (no apostrophe, thank you). My sense is that portable electronics are easier targets (quick 'smash and grabs'). Maybe some of the LEOs could chime in on what the theft rate looks like for installed devices like the 7160.

Depends on the locale. Around here, the dope smoking sh*t heads will smash the window regardless of what they see, and take whatever they can pawn or sell on the street for a quick buck. My Yukon was bone stock - no aftermarket anything inside - and they still ransacked it and yanked my maglite (which was relatively hidden on the side of the trans hump) off the mount and got my iPod out of the center console.

They don't need a reason, if there is something valuable in your truck, visible or not, they'll find it and take it. The pros can be in and out in less than a minute.

Just lower the comprehensive deductible on your insurance and hope for the best. :o

so oregonLC will be making a thread this weekend, "Kenwod DNX7160 and flame-thrower-anti-theft-system install".

I'm not worried much, first it is not a quick steal, second i had 2 Garmin mounted on the windsheild stolen, so i'm alot less worried someone will go through the trouble for this. If you want to be safe you can chaine it to the dash steel post going side to side.
And most of all i'm not going to prevent myself from enjoying this because of theif, i pay insurance to take care of that.
