Hi bcollins,
You can hook up the factory amp and speakers to the aftermarket deck, I did that and it sounds great.

Hi xlr8it,
How did you do this?
I am looking at a unit from dig_options and he told me that I would need an interface between his unit and the factory amplifier.

Check with Crutchfieild. they should have what you need.

Do they ship to Australia?
Will check.

Just checked, not much for my 2002 LX470.

Is yours the updated model (reverse lights next to the number plate) if so then it is not as straight forward as the pre 2002 model

The reverse light is in the rear light cluster, so I think it is the pre 09/2002 model as it also has the 4-speed auto.
Does that makes it easier?

it is quite easy on this model from memory but it has been 5 years since i have done it.

If you follow the pins in this post you should be ok

After bending backwards, lying upside down under the seat, I found the following info on the sticker (which was on the bottom of the amplifier):
Manufactured by Matsushita Japan
Model no 8628-60260

Crutchfield says they have not researched the '99 Lexus LX 470 and cannot recommend specific units :-(

I am sure there are some good head units now that could do CD/DVD + Nav + back up camera...

Physically any double din unit will work in the LX/LC. I have pioneer units in both the LX and LC with nav, backup camera etc and its pretty straight forward install once you know what wires to use. In our LX I first used the nakamichi amp to run all the speakers by just splicing the rca signal outputs that one would use to feed an aftermarket amp but just fed it to the factory amp. A few years later the factory amp took a dump and I just bypassed it by patching the wires under the passenger seat as thats where the amp is.

To fill in the LX dash around the unit you will need a trim piece like this

I picked mine up on amazon but seems these are cheaper.

Also a good read in case you had not seen it.

Thank you! What year is your LX? What Pioneer unit did you put in?

its a 2000 and I cant recall the exact model number as it was about 7 years ago but it was an Avic F series and has been pretty reliable. I also have newer vesions of the unit in the Supra and LC and they work pretty well. Only gripe with the pioneer units are the startup time is a bit long as its a windows ce unit.

Here is the very old picture I found from when I installed it. This was before the trim piece I mentioned above was available and had to make my own.

Yes, you can use factory amp!

Hi, bcollins.
Welcome to the forum!
I decide to bypass Nakamichi AMP for one only good reason: somehow it was blown since I have my LX and at medium loud level delivered a lot of sound distortions .
I hope it’s fixable and some day I’ll put it back. BTW, it has 6channels total:
LF (speaker + tweeter); RF (speaker + tweeter); LR speaker; RR speaker and two channels for sub (2 speakers). No any passive crossovers for tweeters. Look closer on amplifier connector diagram.
I think if you will use really great existing amplifier, it’s much easier to wire up new Kenwood unit.

I realize this is a really old post, you may not even be on here, or have your '99 LX any longer, but I thought our LXs had 1 x 6" sub in the rear?

And I thought swapping my after market head unit from the LC to the LX would be easy... I was dead wrong!

How in the world can there be no option for a harness on just this vehicle from lexus?

In one of the threads on here someone suggested the brilliant idea of re-pinning your 22 pin LX plug into the 20 pin LC plug and then using the adapters available at Crutchfield or other...

pulled the head unit side of the connector out of the factory deck today in an attempt to make my own "custom harness" and got stuck. Luckily the audio shop next to my daughters daycare said they would take a crack at it tomorrow. I said that with the seat out, dash apart and all of this research, it shouldn't take their tech more than an hour to figure it out. I also asked them NOT to cut the factory harness and not to use wire "t's" if at all possible. I've had these fail on me in the past and would rather not have that experience again.
