Starting off a build thread to document / journal my work on this truck. Currently at 311k miles, I've put 10k of those on myself. I bought this truck as a distraction project. It's named after my fiancee and best friend who shared the same name; she passed away in front of me in a tragic biking accident. I had been talking to the previous of this cruiser just 2 hrs before the accident. Kel was never a fan of my Toyotas (3rd gen 4runner, 80 series) and thought they were sh*tboxes, but she really liked the style and vibe of the 62. I got the thumbs up earlier that morning.

This vehicle kept me alive in the darkest periods after her death. It was the only thing I looked forward to and as silly as it sounds, the only "joy" I felt for many months. My plan is to keep this forever.

[done work]
New CSF radiator & hoses (1/24/25)
OME medium leaf springs & shocks, 2.5" lift (2/13/25)
Replaced thermostat bypass hoses with OEM hoses & clamps (4/18/25)
Replaced 4 rear heater hoses under the truck with gates aftermarket hoses (4/21/25)
Replaced leaking axle third member seal (4/21/25)
Replaced rear taillight lenses (4/25/25)
Had rear upper hatch professionally repainted & rust repair done on two passenger side doors (6/03/25)
Replace front & rear bumpers with new OEM parts (6/13/25)
Replace broken rear window spray nozzle with Honda part (6/22/25)
Sandblast & repaint tow hitch (6/23/25)

[in progress]
Replace driver's door & ignition with keyed match to rest of vehicle
Repair broken rear hatch lock
Design 2 relay window motor mod PCB to replace loose wiring & relays, post for sale too
Replace cracked rear window fluid line

[planned]
Get all windows ceramic tinted with something clear-ish (70-80% VLT)
Fix incorrectly installed front & rear shackles that a shop did (reversed & upside down lol)
Replace dead oil pressure gauge
Re-chrome wheels
Install vapor barrier in each door
Repaint grille
Replace broken dash center trim piece with Rust Farmers repro kit
Replace broken seatbelt stiffeners with Rust Farmers repro kit
Replace cracked D pillar vents with Rust Farmers repro kit
4Runner wiper upgrade
Replace the auto with an H55 once it blows up
Replace interior door cards with custom reproduction ones..perhaps changing the top material to gray leather

Discovered this mess today - relays installed to make the switch last longer so that the full motor current doesn't have to pass through the switch contacts. One for up, one for down. I'm an electrical engineer by trade so I'm going to design & fab a small PCB that replaces this rats nest. It will be functional for any Land Cruiser with power windows - both 12V and 24V systems. I should have a design done tonight and will order prototypes in the next week from the assembly house.

Today's project was supposed to be an easy one. Since I have the rear hatch covers all removed for my lock repair project, I figured I'd replace my rear spray nozzle with the Honda part that fits perfectly (76850-SWA-305). The part fits great, but I've never tested the rear pump. So I filled up the bag and tested it. The pump works great, but the nozzle spray wasn't strong at all. I went to the back of the truck and saw the hatch dripping from weird places, and realized that somewhere along the route from the pump to the rear hatch, the 36 year old tubing is cracked and leaking. I didn't want to do the project today, so I'll tackle that this week or next at some point.

Attaching a pic of the old spray nozzle. The plastic retaining clip broke and it was flopping around.

My condolences, what a tragic story.
I know of others whose LandCruisers helped them through dark times.

I signed up for your window relay, looking forward to it.

Great looking truck, how is the transmission?

Thank you - missing her every single moment.

Transmission is great right now! It had a rebuild about 10k miles ago. Has a cooler installed so hopefully that prolongs the life.

With regards to the rear window sprayer, check your tubing in the upper right corner of the rear hatch. There is a check valve and a very tight angle for the routing of the tubing. That's where mine cracked. Small hands help!
Good luck!

Thanks! Did you use the aquarium style tubing as replacement or did you use something more resilient?

Attaching some pictures of the tow hitch. Mine had surface rust and very hard to remove stickers. I got it professionally sandblasted and powder coated. Re-installed with stainless steel hardware...sadly everything is made in China. Hopefully it truly is stainless. Hitch came out great!!

Great, now I want to do the same thing to my trailer hitch. Is that a Draw-Tite unit? I believe that’s what mine is. Looks very similar.

Great work and sorry for your loss.

It is the original that came on the truck. I guess port installed? It’s a draw tite.

You might want to swap out the stainless for Grade 8 bolts. Or at least do some research. I think stainless is fairly soft and may no be the best choice for this application. Otherwise, it looks great.

EDIT: From a quick Google search, with the AI generated response, for what it's worth:

Good call! I’ll do that. I don’t intend to tow anything - just use it for a bike rack. But I’ll get all the hardware to swap to grade 8 in the next couple weeks.
