OKAY, I have remote start, but of course, it turns off when I try to open my door or unlock my vehicle. My 2018 Honda Civic doesn't do this. Is there a way to prevent my 2013 GX460 from turning off when I open the door or unlock it? Thanks!

Thank Toyota health and safety. Not gonna be possible to my knowledge. I desperately want this too.

at least you have RES, i have to find an aftermarket one because im so tired of feeling like a peasant manually starting my car in the morning and running back inside before work, I drive a Lexus this is a crime :frown:

Yeah, sometimes I wish I had remote start when it dips into the low 50°'s here in So. Cal... But at least I have seat and steering wheel heaters!! 😝

Total disappointment lol...

Bought mine a few years old used and noticed a RES sticker on the window later. "wait, what, do i have remote start?" searched it up, ran to the garage and held the button(s?) down on the remote and it fired right up. Awesome! Got in and it died, "wtf?" Played with it a couple times and verified this is how it's supposed to "work". Never used it again. If my life depended on it I don't know what to hold down to make it start...

Seat heaters and super effective/fast steering wheel heater take most of the sting out of the total failure of the "remote start/in person kill" system.

Click the lock button on the remote 3x and it'll remote start (if so equipped).

It's a safety thing that we can't get around. Honestly, this is the first vehicle I've had with remote start (and only after having added it with the Accessorides kit) and it's fantastic for hot/cold days. Even when the truck shuts off, which is a 1% annoyance, it's still a glorious luxury to me. All about perspective...

Opening the rear barn door doesn’t kill the engine so just climb in there. Problem solved 😂

I was annoyed at first too but then I realized pushing a button with my index finger wasn’t really all that inconvenient. I had an MDX before the GX and it stayed on with the door open but killed it as soon as you touched the brake pedal. If they didn't have a forced restart, it would make a thief’s job pretty easy….

Can always climb in through the hatch lol.

My gripe with remote start is that the range on the remote is really short (yes I have replaced the remote batteries). I feel like the range of the remote is roughly the distance/time it takes me to walk up to the truck while remote start is firing up. It's fine for use in the driveway or camping but it would be nice to use from inside a restaurant or wherever before walking out in the parking lot.

💯 %

My mdx system was aftermarket cellphone based. Worked anywhere there was a cell signal and used an app. I wish there was a similar option for the GX but couldn’t find anything when I looked a couple years ago.

Does anyone with lexus link or whatever its called have remote start? Does it use the sat link?

Im going to be going with Compustar once I find a good deal on the install, I loved having the ability to start my Tacoma from anywhere regardless of range from my phone, and i think it had 3 or 5 mile remote range

Then I guess my company vehicle (2023 Nissan Rogue) and my son's DD (2020 Honda Civic) must be easy to steal. Do a remote start on either one, open door, get in, push brake pedal and push-to-start button and the car is running the entire time. :meh:

One hack that does work is holding your keyfob up under your chin (touching your chin) with your mouth open just a wee bit, this is my method and NO I do not look like an idiot! It will significantly increase the distance of the remote. It will even work through windows.
I'm serious...
Try your remote at past the working distance, then try my method above.
Here's an article about it: Digital Debunking: Using Your Head to Extend Your Car Remote Range - https://altair.com/newsroom/articles/Digital-Debunking-Using-Your-Head-to-Extend-Your-Car-Remote-Range

Saying "OPEN" when you do that also helps project the signal further, ha.
I suppose its to keep people from jumping in the running car and driving off?

Nah……in my Nissan and my son’s Honda you have to have the key in the vehicle, step on the brake and press the start button to keep it running. If you try to put it in gear or you don’t have the key it kills the engine.

Seems like when they tasked the engineers with implementing theft prevention on the GX they forgot to add AND keep it convenient for the owner to use. Happens all the time…we just built the thing we were instructed.
