I've only ever seen that option from Kaon. Victory 4x4 uses plastic inserts. I replaced mine before the initial install with the Koan hardware. It is really a clever design.

I don't have any specific ideas about fishing that nut out, I'd also use a reaching tool with a magnet. If you're feeling frustrated, maybe take a break, have a glass of iced tea, and go back at it when you are feeling mentally fresh. This often works for me.

Aren’t those inserts aluminum? If so, magnets no worky…

You don't have an aluminum magnet?... whaaaaaa??

:) honestly, I thought they were steel. My apologies since they are aluminum: I gave bad advice.

Heehee… I’m not positive, but they appeared to be aluminum when I installed mine. The reason I think that is because I remember being careful to make sure no cross-threading, since aluminim is easy to damage…

🤷🏻‍♂️

PS. If I dropped mine, I’d used this cool little camera on a long, bendable roll of semi-stiff wire that feeds an illuminated, live image to my ohone….find the thing…they try to use a bendy grabber…or attach a little hook. Lots of those cameras gizmos are available on amazon for cheap. Not that he should order one, but when you need it, its a great little gadget to have handy for all sorts of dropped doodads…

Yep, you are 100% correct. Your comment made me go look, and the video definitely says it is milled al-u-minium. My memory isn't what it used to be... :)

I tecommend catching Covid… Because…once you’ve had it a time or two like me…you can FOREVER blame these little lapses on long-term Covid BRAIN-FOG!
‘Tis very convenient… 🤷🏻‍♂️😳😂

PS. Yes…I’m fully vaccinated etc. Just got over another bout…like a medium/bad flu.

I decided to take this week off from work to enjoy the weather and knock off some items on my never ending to-do list. So today, I finally got around to installing the Kaon small side panels in my 2020 HE today. I'm not going to show in depth install photos or photos of the shelf as we have plenty of those in this thread. However, since I have a Heritage Edition, there are a few differences from a non-HE LC.

As discussed earlier in the thread, the HE has a cargo barrier instead of 3rd row seats which means that the 3rd row cup holders are different and have a hump for the cargo barrier that interferes with installation of the Kaon panel. I purchased the standard version of the cup holders and swapped them out this morning. Here's what you end up with after the swap:

My initial thought was that I wouldn't have to drill any holes in my quarter panels as the Kaon would use the threaded hole that is used for the cargo barrier and visible in the open space in the above photo. Naturally, that isn't the case. The threaded hole that is needed isn't left exposed, so I still needed to drill holes in the quarter panels using the templates supplied by Kaon. I didn't get them lined up perfectly, so I ended up using my Dremel to open the holes up slightly.

As shown in this second photo, the large open area that's left after swapping the cup holders is pretty much completely covered by the Kaon side panel. After performing the swap, I think this is the cleanest option as cutting a slot of some sort in the hump would be tough to pull off due to the way it is screwed to the quarter panel.

Finished up v2 of the generic roof shelf. Have had it Off-road now and satisfied with this final iteration.
I built/bent aluminum tie in brackets to the 3rd row seatbelt bolts. It is now solid and has no vibration in it.
I’m in some time, and about $100 in parts, the majority of that in the kaon bolt kit and the 2x4 ft advert grid. About $20 of misc aluminum and stainless bolts.

Nice.

This last photo of the more simple support has me thinking I might prefer that over my full molle version.

Maybe someone who wishes they had the molle would like to trade…

How was mounting the base model cup holders in the HE? Do they bolt right up or is there any modifying required?

TY...This is very helpful!

They match right up with no left over screws that aren't accounted for (3 on the hump). The HE cup holders have an extra hump (in place of the 2nd cup holder) on the top side with 3 screws and a piece on the back side of the quarter panel that presumably adds extra strength for when the cargo divider is being used. Note that when purchasing this version of the cup holders, that extra piece isn't included - for completeness, I believe this is the part. When removing / installing the original cup holders, the screws that attach the adjacent arm rest need to be loosened or removed as the 2 pieces interlock with each other. The passenger side is a breeze, but a few of the screws are a bit difficult to get to on the driver side because there are some other items (I think for air ducts) in the way. It took me about 2 hours to remove the quarter panels, swap out the cup holders, and clean up the wiring that I had run to the back for power sockets (I had not fully removed the quarter panels when I did that). The typical advice of being careful so you don't break anything applies here - make sure all of the interlocked panels, bolts, and other externally accessible fasteners have been removed before pulling on the quarter panel and make sure you have all the pins aligned before pushing on the panel when reinstalling. I don't get why they cut such a large hole in the quarter panel for this as all they needed was the ~.5" hole for the bolt to go through. Obviously they aren't expecting the buyer to swap out the cup holders, leaving the open hole, but it just seems silly to do it that way. I'm actually surprised that they went to the effort of different quarter panels and leaving out the threaded holes and other fixings for the third row seats, but I'm assuming that a 2 row configuration must have been available in markets outside the USA. It wouldn't have been worth the effort for a "few" hundred HE's in the USA vs just coming up with covers for the places where third row seat hardware would be mounted (which would sell like hotcakes to this crowd that frequently removes the 3rd row seats).

Just ordered Kaon center divider. The dollar is extremely strong right now against the AUD, so prices are great for those of us in the states. I also ordered Kaon shock guards from Long Range America because they are in stock. To my surprise, the package from AU will be here today and I don't think the LRA order has even shipped.

How’s the shipping rate?
It was extremely high for me when I was trying to order.

I am no longer in the LC 200 business and have a Kaon shelf with large Molly support still in the box if anyone is interested. I will be posting a classified this week but thought I would get the word out.

Interested.

Yep - I am

Well I've started hacking up my HE arm rest to secure a mount. Like Greynolds I prepurchased standard arm rest/cup holders and an extra set of HE pieces. While I've had one quarter panel out for some other work, I finally decided to tackle. If ionly had a laser scanner to develop a mock up, but alas just me, a template gauge and Dremel cutting wheel. I having done one side, the side that just would have caused me problems going to the standard piece and I have an ARB fridge plug and a relay positioned in the gap where the forward cup holder is supposed to live. On the passenger side i will probably just switch to the double cup -arm rest and may after final fit-up take final measurements on the drivers side and cut up a second HE arm rest. I have considered having some new Kaon type side braces made that have a bit more forward angle so as to permit retaining enough of the HE structure that it still covers the back side of the hole and permits use of the cargo cover. Not that I even remember where I stored mine. FYI, a few years back I actually had the Kaon shelf duplicated in aluminum, saving about 8-1/2 lbs which goes right back into payload capacity. No I don't feel that I stole IP as i purchased and have retained my original Kaon shelf and have not profited one penny from the bootleg version.
