It was THE single hardest thing i have ever done in my life. I mean, a friend who has been with you from 7 years old until 19. Its funny thinking of all the milestones in my life he has seen. I've been keeping kinda low lately...taking it pretty hard.... My dad and I brought him in...never saw my old man cry before. still kinda mad at mom for breaking his hip, but i will get over it. sorry for jumping around, just had to get it off my chest...thanks.

RIP Joey.

Rainbow Bridge

Max,

When I lost my Golden, a friend sent me this... I like to read it every once in a while.

Nothing takes the place of your dog's love...

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the "Rainbow Bridge" because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing; they are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him/her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again, again, and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

We put our oldest Britt down The Tuesday before. He had been with my wife and I for almost 15 years. I cried like a baby.

im sorry max. that is still probably my most painful memory ever. but thinking of him still brings a smile to my face. i feel for ya man

been there many times, it never gets easy. if anything it gets harder to do each time.
i swear i am not getting another one when each one goes but each time i have to... i just can not be without my best friend...

sorry to read this,

(BTW, i highly doubt your mom broke his hip on purpose, let it go...)

Hi All:

Max, I'm really sorry to hear about this!

I have been faced with this once before, at age 17, to have to "put-down" my 17 year old Collie. :frown: It was an extremely rough experience!

I have two dogs now, and hopefully won't have to deal with this issue at least for another ten or more years!

Take care, man!

Alan

I'm so sorry. It looks likes like he was a happy and loved dog. It's hard to lose a best friend.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Its always a difficult thing.
I will be dealing with this same issue in the coming months Im afraid, Our younger Hound has some prety wicked growths going on, She is only 10 and she is really starting to slow down.
Good luck

Sorry for your loss. I hope you get past the pain as easily as possiable.

I really didn't want to open this thread. I hate to hear when somebody loses a dog. Three years and a new pup since I put my last one down and I still get teary thinking about it.

They truly are our best friends, they love unconditionaly and ask for little in return.

Sorry to hear about that Max...that sucks!

thanks for the kind words guys....feeling better lately so i guess i could elaborate on the hip-thing.

Last sunday Joey was laying under the front of my mom's lexus, and i think he tried to stand up and get out as she started the car...and when she started to back up he got wedged and broke his hip. He did have some hip problems but nothing too bad.

i hate to say it, but 90% of me wanted to kick my mom's ass....seriously. but, the other 10% was the voice of reason....i mean, she felt really really bad about it, and i dont think she realized until then how much she loved that dog! I know she didn't try it, but being the guy i am, i told her to practice her aim so she can get the cat next time!

Anyways, thanks for all the comments and well wishes, they really helped me get through this!

Thanks,
Max

I am very sorry and I feel your pain. I put Harley, my seven year old Lab to sleep in April of '02. I cried like a baby for days and still feel the loss. He was the best dog I have had in a lifetime (43 years) of constant "good" dog friendship.

You can bet she knew and you can also bet she was sick about it. A couple years ago I ran over our Britt (the one we just put down). I did not kill him but I was a mess as was he.

My aunt put down her 17 year old Bichon yesterday. Just talked to her on the phone. She's not doing that well.

Hang in there.... treasure the memories.
