I have been working on this conversion for awhile now. It was the most difficult conversion I have done to date. Quite a challenge and very fun.
Thanks to all the postings I read on this subject and others was very helpful going down this path. I am posting this to share and hopefully it will help someone else.

I started with a 1987 FJ60 for the bottom end and a 1988 Fj62 for the top and of course fuel injection.
Had Eric at Santa Fe Auto Machine bore the cylinders, rebuild the head with new valves and guides, etc. and assemble the short block.
I disassembled the transmission and transfer, replaced all seals and gaskets while everything was apart. I installed a saginaw power steering conversion years earlier and connected the Fj62 pump to it during this work, glad to remove the whiny chevy pump that was attached to the original 2F engine.
The fuel supply system is Bosch FP200 feeding through a Toyota fuel filter.
I mounted the ECU to the left of the glove box. Every effort was made to hide the fuel injection components from the original look and feel of the 1978 FJ40 interior. The only visible evidence is the check engine light.
