So my father has had his hj45 since long before i was born, kinda like an old dog its always been here.

recently.. we decided to sell... being he cant drive it very much "motocycle accident".. and i was fresh in the car loan department and couldnt really afford to drive it. (DIESEL PRICES ARE CRIMINIAL IN AUST) . anyway i spent a few hundred with my brother to fiberglass some holes and bog some cavities. undercoat it. detail the engine. fix the bonnet. all the nicities to sell it.. at a bargain price.

today a chap came to look at it and i hurting something bad when he was telling how he would strip it down and take it bush, heading for some abandom dump..

so it was a nosale

>>>>POINT OF THE THREAD<<<<<

The major worry i have with keeping is this allmighty horrid rust.. there already is 2 holes in the floorpan that would prob void a RWC.

so im considering a fibgerlass overhaull

has anyone had any dealings with .. well.. a new to old conversion with fiberglass?

also..

nice to be here lads.. always good to see some LWB's still roaming around :)

Hi, never seen a fiberglass tub/body for a troopie, that would be quite special and I would guess very expensive just because of the amount of material needed.

I am afraid nothing is going to be cheap but repairing the steel with steel will usually be the best solution, perhaps find a way of learning to weld, night classes that sort of thing, also try not to leave the fiberglass repairs in place too long, the rust will only get worse.

oz east fiberglass in noosa do a troopy fiberglass body but be sitting now about 13000BUX for the whole kit (that was middle of last year tho)

yours doesnt look too bad all troopys rust in the floor nothing some cutting grinding and welding cant fix and the floors are close enough to a swb that a section should be able to be obtained

If you are wanting a glass tub be prepared for cardiac arrest when you get the price. I just priced one for my shorty & it was $5500.00. from Oz East. Ihave an all glass one piece front already though

ive spotted the noosa lads a few years back.. it was 11 grand back then :P. however thats for an entire well... 4wd.. but yeah bit out of reach there.

are the floorpans themselves easily obtainable? or is it just one of those take it to a panal beater and say "make it better".

we have had problems with the rear doors having heavy rust cavities.. i cleared most and bodged them. but they wont last i belive

id love for this to become more of a daily driver in the next while. but... well see.. any info would be tip top

cheers lads

post up some pics of the rust ive just done some rust repair on my troopy and given it a lick of paint to keep it looking tidy but its getting worse each year tho luckly my tub is pretty rust free

eventually i plan to do all boltons in fiberglass but for now ill just keep cutting and welding in new steel as the rust slowly takes over

in the 80's my dad went overboard with anti rust stuff "nowhere near the quality of stuff today but.. hindsight hey..."
the areas effected seem to have got it from maybe water spreying up from the wheels... should of put mudguards on.

i can see how fiberglass would be fantastic.. but.. dollar for dollar hey.

250kg body... with a diesel.. fuel effeciency would be pritty good

ill post pics in the morn. no crawling on the ground at night for me :P

congrats on nice rig.......glad you are keeping her:clap:; are those KONI shocks on the front end?:steer:;

the suspenstion is custom "Albiet old" springs built in south australia. i think 10 rear 8 front. its sprung for reallllly heavy loads. the rear springs wont move without at least a ton :P so its very very heavy... it was assembled for a trip around oz with a large offroad trailer and boat... "hense the vacumm brakes"

and the shocks are koni HD;s also designed for mega punishment.... all in all its a very hard ride. would it be wise to have a few leafs removed and new brushes.. being as they are fairly old.

i got the price list from the mob in noosa. .. all in all.. 12 grand for fiberglass everything.........however.. the main parts that are needed are the rear barn doors... roof gutter....front radiator support and well.. u could go as far as saying the rear upper sides..

the rust in the floorpan for the price is more worth being cut out and what not.. for now at least

all those add up to the 2400 mark..........reasonable u think?

ive circled the rust areas in red in these pics...
inside (note the original seats just incase the buyer wanted 11 seating again.. as well as the stylish plush carpeting:P) the rust is up in the corner of the gutter. rain does get in there
and down on the joins between the walls and body tub its quite messy

outside .even though i bogged "lots of the stuff" and did a quick paint job rust still exists alot in those doors and tub "note the vacumn brakes outlet"

and in the front shot u can just see the large rust hole through the radiator suround

there are lots of small rust spots all over the 4wd... whats good for those.. sand them out and just paint over with a primer

i just wish i could find toyoa mustard yellow paint.. or have the guts and location for a resprey :P
