Just brought home 92FJ80 - How did I do?

I ruined my wife's CRV a/c by trying to do it myself. Yours probably never been serviced.

You didn't ruin it, Ned. CRV's may possibly have the worst ac system ever designed. The compressors lock up on a regular basis. The condenser must be replaced when that happens. If you've ever seen a cut away of a micro-tube condenser, you'll quickly understand why.

Welcome to the awesomeness.

The first thing I'd recommend (just my $.02) is tightening the throttle and transmission cables. Really wakes it up!

Congrats and welcome!

I like white too, so why did I buy a red one?

As promised here are the pics from the underbody. Not as bad as I first thought but not very pretty either.

Google Docs

I did only notice a couple of what looks to be somewhat serious areas. Most of this seems to be concentrated in the rear, front looks pretty good. Of all the rust underneath I noticed very little body rust which seems odd to me.

I plan to follow the advise of a couple of posts and start with an angle grinder and wire brush followed up with POR or maybe used oil. Any other suggestions?

Just as a side note my wife uploaded the pics and provided the names for them. I think she is somehat jealous that she is stuck driving the J**p and I get the new ride?

Nice rig, is a early or late 92. After 08/92 game changes. I have the early 92 and love it with the 3FE engine. Not real powerful but fun to wrench on. Congrates; enjoy, my kids love it.

Game changes? In what way??

Thanks gain for all the feedback. Any thoughts on the rust pics? Average, normal or gee that sucks?

I have been out in the hay field last couple of days so no time to tinker yet. I did notice however that the a/c belt is missing, what are the odds that replacing the belt and I get a/c. Sure would be nice.

Also noticed while taking the pics there is a hole in the exhaust just after the cat. It is only about 1/8" by 1/2". Could this be causing the exhaust noise?

POR15 is your friend, and I see you becoming an expert in the art of heating bolts soon.

Have you had a chance to pop off the fill plugs on the steering knuckles yet to check the grease & see if the PO cleaned up the outer ends of the axles in time to sell it on the 'Bay?

Is this your DD or a weekender play toy? -- Congrats BTW!

The previous owner was a kid who decided to move to Cali to become a star. I dealt with his Dad who made the comment "yeah some people seem to really like these trucks, I just don;t get it". I am sure he did nothing to the truck before listing on eBay. I probably could have said 'the Johnson Rod is broke and he would have bought it".

The truck sat a garage for nearly a year after the kid skipped out owing about $900 for repairs. The Dad just wanted to sell and send the money to his son who apparently has not yet became a star.

I have started reading all about options to stop and treat the rust.

It is strictly a play truck. I am fortunate enough to have a company truck for work. I would like to get road worthy enough to drive to NC coast for a fishing outting maybe by the fall.
