I know we have a Cullowhee trip planned this July. Is there any interest in getting my friends mountain house that weekend? It's like 150$. It's about a 15 min ride to the trails. It actually has a really nice trail right off the driveway. I was thinking for those who aren't campers it could be a good place to stay and still go wheeling. And those who want to camp to maybe still do that on the bald Sat night. That way we all have a meeting place, wrenching place and base camp at least Friday night.

If we have interest I'd like to go ahead and get it reserved.

Ideas or comments?

I think you have a great I idea there marshall, I myself plan on camping.......... but I think the house is a great deal for those who don't want to spend the night sleeping on the hard ground :D

Also would be interested in the trail near the house from what I understand it used to go over the mountain to Franklin could be a cool night ride friday night!

if you can why don't you send this out as a mass e-mail to the club, I would do it but I am computer illiterate

I am............ I will be out on the trail the whole time as before. Marshall suggested this for those who didn't want rough-it. With the idea they could meet us at some point for a day trip.

I intend to make the same loop to the bald and them down to where we camped the 2nd night, but push on from there on a much longer loop for day two that will talke us to some new places.

so yes it is still an expidetion trip :D

Sounds like a good opportunity for those folks who don't want to rough it to have some nicer digs.

I'll be out of the trail like JP, camping or getting stuck and just sleeping where I'm at... :D

not this time my friend.......... that was one long night, nothing like standing in knee deep mud trying to dig out a stuck cruiser in the cold pouring rain at 3 am in the morning........ miles from any thing :D  good memories for sure

I was just thinking it could be a cheap fun alternative for those who don't have the means to camp or the ability. Also some may not be able to go both nights so they could come out for the folks just for Sat. Or those slackers like me who may not be able to really get my crap together in time and know I wil hold the rest of the group up waiting for me to arrive when it really wouldn't matter when you got to the house as long as it was before we left on Sat to meet with the group on the trail.

How long would a daytrip take to get to the Bald from the start of the trail?

I would think you could stretch it into a 4-6 hour series of loops, there are many possiblities for side trail exploration in the aera.

Roger that, understood. That's why I think it's a good idea although I probably wouldn't be staying there.

It takes over an hour to get to the bald from various places where the pavement ends. Depends on conditions really. It's roughly 13 miles to the top of the last bald from the BP in East LaPorte where Caney Fork road begins.

That was an adventure, there's no 2 ways about it. You certainly saved my bacon there.

Those fat trout made it all seem worth it the next day though... :D

What is the Date of the trip?
