Got the sliders on 95%, ran out of welding wire on the passenger side:mad: so I still need to finish that off. Got the Tacoma elocker rear axle in, it realy isn't much wider, but the locker will be nice. Need to weld the ebrake pivot point to the axle and it will be done. Probably going to put the stock rear bumper back on to get it through inspection until I build one. With any luck I may also have a trailer for the upcoming ride on the 17th, planning on heading up on friday and camping.

Well I stayed out in the shop until about 3:30 this morning trying to get everything done. Well other than some new wiper blades for the front and putting smaller tires on it, it is ready to get inspected. Got it registered and insured yesterday, only $300 a year, not too bad. The only part that I am waiting for is my ORS Elocker harness, hopefully that gets here early next week, but I have a feeling it won't be in in time.

JT, Im pushin to try and get it done for ya! I can't promise anything since we have quite a few harness orders in front of ya, but I am trying :) I will let you know once it gets shipped!

Wow, Thanks, I really appreciate it. For anyone that needs Toyota stuff, Off Road Solutions has been great to work with thus far, will definately be gettting more stuff from them in the future:clap:

Well the truck had a major set back today, was driving it to the shop to get inspected and something in teh engine let go, not sure yet, haven't had time to tear it down. Looking for a 22re now :( So it doesn't look like I will make it to Rausch with it this weekend.

Glad we could help. Really sorry to hear about the bad luck tho, that blows.

that sucks man, check compression if ya can, and check timing too, maybe the chain let go:crybaby:...are you sure it was something internal and not the computer or a sensor?

how did it die? slow or fast? did it make bad sounds? be as specific as you can and well get it going.

Yeah it does suck, haven't had time to check it out yet, but was driving it up a slight incline in 4th gear, it started to loose power so I went down to 3rd, loosing more power, then 2nd and then pulled into someones driveway to get it off the road and it died. Went to fire it again, and it turned over fire, but stumbled really badly an kinda ran but then died again. Now can't get it to really fire at all, don't want to bend any valves. No irregular smoke or noises, my wife was behind me the entire time and said that she saw nothign out of the ordinary. It did make a small bang when I started it, kind of like it popped out of gear, but I had the clutch in. Not sure. Gonna pull the valve cover to see if I have a timing chain still. Maybe get lucky and just have to change that out, figures since that is the one thing we didn't do to it.

I don't know if it helps any... same thing in my 84 4runner about a month ago (LOST power going up hill and it would not idle at all... I was baffled, checked for loose vaccuum lines/etc, everything that seemed like it would cause it... Apparently my manifold burned through one of my spark plug wires while I was driving...

new wires and I was good to go!

So it goes to show its not always a hard fix.

I hope its that easy for you as well!

x2 look for vacume leaks,

Remember you need 3 things for that engine to work Air, Fuel and Fire

I bet its fuel or spark. they should be easy to check.

Well all the wires are good and it is getting fuel. I defiantely think it is something internal now, we were turning it over last night to see if it would start, it wouldn't, but it was making a clanging noise in teh motor, then it would not turn over any more. May pull it apart this week some after work, but looking at getting maybe a different engine from Gary.

I just want to get this damn truck on the trail before East Coast 4 Runner Jamboree June 20th. Look for a wrenchfest soon :D

I guess its time to tear into that sucker. Damn it! I bet Dana wont want to let you out and play when I stick my crawler in If you have to do all that wrenching.

your $200 truck is getting expensive.

Look for a wrenchfest soon.
Just so you know, the work we did in December was only covered for 30 days... You should have purchased the extended warranty.

Ah it's ok, I still have less into the entire truck with mods than it would have taken to put a crawler into my Tacoma, plus I would have been really pissed if I put the crawler in and then had the buyback issues.

We'll get it figured out, shouldn't take too long to swap out since I know what I am doing now and it won't get torn down as far as it was when I got it, everything was torn apart with the fuel injection, wire harness, and what not, plus all the bolts are loose now and not rusted fast :D

now all ya have to do is change the date on the thread title ;)

I'd ratehr just change this one to something without the wrenchfest, something like JT's 4 Runner build:beer:

Well I got a few minutes to tear into the engine last night. Turns out the bolt that holds the timing chain sprocket to the cam backed out, doesn't appear to have been torqued or any type of locktight. It backed out about 1/2 and then allowed the sprocket to walk. The chain and what not are still good. it also looks like the oil and antifreeze are mixing and there is metal in the oil in the top of the head. So I think to be on the safe side, I will pull this engine and put another one in. Gary and Sean both have one, just gotta talk with them.

Well I got the old engine out last night by myself, boy was that fun. I accidentally for got to put one of the engine hoists leg lock pins in so once the engine was up and almost over the core support, the leg decided to fold up, luckily it went outside of the truck and didn't mess anything in the truck up, but it shot across the shop and into my front axle and intake parts that I had taken off. Surprisingly the intake stuff is perfectly fine and the axle just fell off the stand. Going to stop by Seans this week to see his old motor and try and put that in over the long weekend, hopefully :D

Looking to get this done over the next two weeks through the nights, wish me luck.

Also got my new Elocker Harness from Off Road Solutions, all I can say is this harness is a work of art. Here's some pictures.
