Putting Jack's 4Runner back together and one of the captive nuts got screwed up. I figured it wasn't going to be too big of a problem, but I cannot figure out the proper size.

It looks like an M14x1.5 bolt. It measures a little less than 14mm. The thread pitch is 1.5. Tried a M14x1.5 tap and it is too big. Tried a M13x 1.5 tap and it is too small. Any ideas? Maybe some JIS bolt?

I wish I could assist. Good luck.

Are you sure it isn't SAE?

I'm not. Do you think it could be? I'll check tomorrow.
Maybe. I know Toyota used SAE bolts (7/16"?) for seatbelts.

let me know what tap you need and ill check my stash

I ordered another m14x1.5. Maybe the one I got is junk? That seems to be the only thing it can be. I don't know.

is it beyond fixing by turning the bolt into the thread chaser?
That was the first thing I tried. I thought sure it would work, but it just won't catch.

I got it! Ground a taper on the old bolt that I had cut slots into to make a chaser. After that I was able to get a tapered tap to start. After a few turns of the tap the threads were good enough to get the bolt in. Maybe I will get my LX back soon.
