5,400 ft looking down at -285

crazy beautiful views from up here, bring your binoculars

Christmas Day = an empty national park and the temps were amazing, slight breeze and 57

after this stop we knew we had to get down there and check Bad Water out up close

Wanna see a real life ghost town? Death Valley on Christmas Day is empty.

Had to stop at the airport and get that negative altitude shot.

Please California get your s*** together, I get I’m in Death Valley in the middle of no where but by no means should it have been 6$ a gallon for fuel. Almost twice as much as the most expensive fuel up I had in Gunnison Colorado

Vegas vacation is over 😢

but we didn’t stop exploring on the way home. Made a slight detour and decided we were gonna hit the whole Petrified Forest south to north on the drive back home.
The little stop we did on the way out was just a teaser, and left us wanting more so we had to come back and get our fix

if you have not gone and checked the Petrified National Forest get there. Well worth a weekend trip exploring

So yes I might have a slight problem.

Salida and classic cruisers was no where near our way home, buuuut a 6 hour detour for some parts since your this far West 🤷‍♂️, guess it is an addiction after all.

100% love this place, makes me feel like a kid walking into toys r us

if you have never been you must go one time.

Cant wait to call this place home soon

the 3200 mile trip to Death Valley and back for a Christmas getaway was a success.

the Tercel handled the trip like a champ, we only blew one strut on the 47 miles of washboards roads on the west side of Death Valley ( the other was blown already)

averaged right around 40 mpg the whole trip
The worse fuel mileage was from Kansas to Texas on the first leg out and got 34 mpg, the best was from Salida Colorado - Hutchison Kansas at 45 mpg.

all in all t was a great road trip and if you have not done something like it recently get out and enjoy it!

so since I’m back home and sas5 has been announced I guess it’s time to get back to the gambler

The day before I was to leave town for the FJ Summit X I saw this add on Craigslist for a 60 that “needed a desmog”

so I went and checked it out and took all my stuff to buy it and desmog it right there and drive it home.

unfortunately I had to come home and unload my rig run back up with the truck and trailer.
The PO was hoping it was a desmog, when I started pulling plug wires and the rig did not change how it ran we both knew it was more than just a desmog needed for it.

best part, picked the un straight, slightly rusty, barley running enough to get on the trailer cruiser up for 500$, even came with a roof rack.

buuuut with the FJ Summit X starting tomorrow- no joy time to ooo and ahhhh, get this rig offloaded and get me to the mountains!

Well got to FJ summit X a little early, so decided to go explore and see how the cruiser does at altitude

11k and no real problems with the 2f, little sluggish but just kept on chugging along.

love the views we stumbled upon. Still to this day one of my favorite places.

looking forward to SAS5 gonna be doing some camping there this year

I lived in sunny gunny and cb for 14 years, gas was high but you ride a bike everywhere or your high so you don’t care, 30 miles of paradise surrounded by reality

I remember you mentioning that, also that those places we’re beautiful and totally worth the cost for a year or two and the experience of a life time

Fj Summit X was a hit, well kinda.

After the steps on black bear pass, we paused for pictures, then my fuel pump decided it didn’t want to work anymore.

the group at the fj summit is not exactly the group you go looking to for help, mainly a lot of greenies who look at carbs and go ohhhh that’s something you need to take to the shopI’m on my own on this one

So after about 30 min of scrounging around the back of the cruiser I came up with the gatorade bottle and hose plan.

worked great like just had to have my passenger squeeze the bottle and shoot some fuel into the carb every 10-15 seconds or so and we’re down the mountain and into town, since town was very busy decided it was gonna be better to grab a tow across yuppie ville.

good thing i trailered out this year, fuel pumps were 4 days out.

but what the FJ Summit X did do for me was set the hook, i instantly fell in love with the Rockies and was already longing to be back.

Ever herd of the gambler500?

well Kansas was about to have one in a couple weeks so, yeah what better than a 500$ landcruiser to go bomb around south East Kansas.

now to see if I can get it running

Well got The Gambler in the garage, fired right up! Moved three feet and that’s all she had.

motor locked up, spun cyl 2-3 😢

buuuut luckily I had another landcruiser just sitting around (not really it was my daily driver) but I wanted an LS for it and what better motivation than to yank the good running motor that you spend way to much money on by hey it’s as good as a 2f will ever be.

musical motor swap commenced

There is a guy who brings a 60 series to the Tennessee gambler. About a month after the 2019 Gambler he was hit by a car that ran a red light and laid it on the side. It now has character and is still a Gambler.

Love that! Also proof landcruisers never die, they just get rebirthed

Interco the makers of Super Swampers has a blem list on their website. I started a tire thread here and someone told me about it. I found our Lincoln some new rubber on the blem list. 31 inches of super swamper glory on the Lincoln. Let me play you the song of my people.
