To be fair, it's the same bro-dozers buying the Toyotas now. Their style may be evolving, but they're still sacrificing MPG and a lot of money for useless dangly-bits on a mall-crawling pavement pounder.

I know it's fun to bash 'wannabe' wheelers (including myself!), but all these frivalous purchases are keeping the vendors we all use in business and items we want in stock. Well, with a 6-10 week+ lead time :)

hopefully that means lower prices on toyota parts now with the booming lifestyle market. Mass production on maxtrax, rotopax gear (add your favorite urban overland gear)!

Let's not forget all the ridiculously built full size trucks with 12"+ lifts, 20" shinny chrome rims with 37+ tires.
They're about a practical as boxers on a snake. All they're good for is towing their mammoth toy hauler trailers.

Man the skateboard stance low profile mud tires are the worst. Anyone rocking those is a f’n clown.

You'd really love it here in rural Missouri. The aspirational vehicle of choice is a Cummins, followed by a Powerstroke or Duramax, with rubber band 35's or larger, a spotless undercarriage, exhaust stacks in the bed, and a 4" plus reverse rake. Diesels are atop the bro-dozer totem poll over Jeeps, various Toyota products, and half-ton trucks for a lot of reasons.

I wish I had a picture of a particularly egregious one I saw the other day. Totally bro'd out Powerstroke dually pulling an equally bro'd out side-by-side on rubber band tires. Both were color-coordinated in white and equally spotless. I guess the Powerstroke alone wasn't enough for this bro.

No offense man but I know better than to live in The South, hahaha

I think you may have forgotten some of your American History / Geography classes. This is a border state that never seceded from the Union :). Bro dozers are waaaay more common in the Midwest than the south anyway. I actually see few of them in AR, TN, etc (lots of half-ton trucks), while IN is the bro-dozer capital of the USA.

I am running 285/70R17's on an otherwise stock 2011. I also live at 6500', so the air is thin and I am down about 20% on power/torque, and it could benefit from a regear or a tune. The transmission doesn't like to downshift unless it really has to.

I did get a pedal commander, which helped a bit, but I still feel like I need to work for it or just put it in sport mode and run in 4th on the hills.

First off, just like to give you a big "Howdy"! And welcome to the party!
From what you've stated above, you've already been looking around, hopefully at some of the sticky posts like GX 460 Manuals, Guide to GX 460 Builds and Aftermarket Products and some of the build threads.
The build threads are a great way to find someone who has already traveled down a similar path that you want for your rig.
Regarding your questions about tire size and speedo calibration, here's the short answer:
There is not a specific product out there just for GX's (or 4R's). The closest thing and they say it "should" work are these guys: Official home page of the Yellow Box Speedo Recalibrator - https://www.yellr.com/yb_home.htm
But in all my years on this site, even when I was building my 100 series Landcruiser, I don't believe anyone has ever tried it yet. If they have, they've been keeping it to themselves.
For myself, I'm running 285/75R17 BFG M/T's which equate to about a 33.9" O.D. tire size. I DID regear and added ARB lockers to both the front and rear. I have no issues going over mountain grades and passes, especially with that V8 under the hood!
My speedometer is almost a perfect 10% off. When my dash reads 50 mph I'm actually doing 55 mph, reads 65, doing 71, etc. So it's pretty easy to calculate on the fly when coming up on a state trooper.
I know my build is way more than what you're looking at, but my wife loves our little "RV".
Here's the link to it: Builds - R2M 2013 GX460 Overland Build - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/r2m-2013-gx460-overland-build.1104719/
Dumb question with regards to the yellow box: does the GX get its speed from a single sensor at the transmission or is it from the four ABS wheel speed sensors?

The easy way to know is if a regear changes the speedo. If the speed sensor is on the transmission and you regear, the transmission output will now spin at a different speed for the same tire size and road speed. This happened with my Jeep.

The Yellow box seems to be designed to only intercept the signal from a single sensor, so if the GX is using some combo of the ABS sensors, it probably would not work.

Apologies MrTorgue, don't mean to mash your Trailhawk, but aren't Trailhawk's a unibody platform? That in itself would be a no-go for building anything truly trail worthy.
My person conviction is to build vehicles that are only body-on-frame,
XJs are plenty capable. They'll out wheel most modern BOF trucks/suvs. Unibody, solid axles front and rear.

Well, the GX is officially my daily driver. We ordered a new Jeep for the wife, and it came in yesterday. I’m sure she will keep me busy fixing it up to her liking. So, I think I will leave the GX alone for a couple years, then maybe pick up a Civic, or maybe a basic Frontier or Taco for DD duties and mod the GX. Pics of wife’s new ride……

Interesting color. What is that color?? Lavender, pink, purple, plum??? Or is it just photo distortion. Perhaps one of those colors for only certain areas of the country.
Never seen it before.

It’s called Tuscadero Pearl

With all due respect, I'd call it: :vomit:
But if it makes his wife happy...
Happy wife, happy life!!

To each their own. I’d rather have options than be boring with black, white, and silver as the only choices. More is always better. Haha.

I know it's digressing a bit, but that's one thing I just don't understand about most auto manufacturers. They ALL have about three shades of black, 4 shades of gray and a couple shades of white for their entire lineup of vehicles. Oh, and maybe some goofy shade of red.
I was excited to see Toyota do the desert tan and green for their trucks! How about more orange and yellows or REAL fire engine RED!
I hate this monochromatic color schemes most are using.

I would have ordered Sarge Green and 2 doors, but as said before, happy wife, happy life. Honestly, I actually like it. Something different. But, the good news is, the Lexus is mine! 😈

I LOVE that desert tan and Nori Green. I would of bought my ‘22 RAV4 Prime in either of those colors if it was a thing. Had to settle for Magnetic-Grey Metallic.
