OK; this has obviously gone way too far! Let me formally stop the threadjacking (myself included) with REI.

Becca and I will be at the ranger station tomorrow at 0900; we're in a "purist" black '07 Tacoma, and we'll be on channel 40.

Get used to it with this group, along with the "it only appears we are organized" comment.

Anyways, anyone hear about a big storm that is supposed to be coming in from the Pacific?

Ali, check on all the suggested items (Suggestions of items to bring with you: gloves for handling muddy straps/ropes/winch lines, boots and second pair of shoes (drive home), rain gear, snacks, drinks, camera and a laid back attitude!) I only have the stock recovery points, but I am hoping with my skills I wont need them! (" You know, like nunchuk skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills... Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills.....") My little ones will be excited to have another little girl in the group. Thanks for heading up this run, see you in the morning!

Ummm, I've never heard that before. :flipoff2:

Though, I think it's more like "it is only an illusion that we appear to be organized."

What? you have never paraphrased anything before? I am making my checklist for tomorrow and getting it ready, so that is why I rushed it. Sorry, Pappy is not quite worthy for an excact quote just yet (e.g. Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe or any other famous you can think of) but getting close. I will remember next time to quote it right, but we can fix that. Hence on, the phrase "it is only an illusion that we appear to be organized" shall be credited to Jon (copyright. trademark, etc. pending). No one shall use this phrase without the proper consent of Jon. You happy now???:flipoff2:

good times

I had a great time all. i am uploading all the pics i took to LINK but they are big and upload is slow... i'm trying out geocoding with GPicsync, so the pics should have correct lat long embedded in them... FWIW geek quotient ;p:rolleyes::D

i have attached a screenshot of the route we took overlayed on a FS map of the area in GE. As well as a pic from us airing down at the trailhead.

looking forward to another time!

Cheers, John

Thanks for posting the map and pics, John. The Gundersons had a great time, and we are looking forward to the next run. Hopefully we can meet your little one and wife next time. Again thanks to all for a good time!
Ron

This was a good day for a trail run. The mud was frozen early in the day and slowly turned to goo toward noon. It was good to meet some new folks and hopefully we'll see them again.

In Attendance were:

Ron and family (Danielle, Claire, Haley) - Sequoia
Ron and Becka - Taco
Rudy and Dan - 80
John - 80
Mark - Rubicon
Ali - 80

Another short obstacle that is very tight up top for turning around. Ron stuffed the Sequoia in there and was happy to do it!

Looks like fun guys! Thanks for sharing some pics. Looks like it was a beautiful January day for wheeling.

It looks like yesterday was a great day for getting out on the trails and having some fun. Thanks for the pics!

Yup, good day for a run. Nice pics guys. I can post up more when Dan sends them to me. I used his camera to take a few.

great pix! that terrain looks familiar somehow, :hhmm:

is it easier in the snow, rather than mud? just wondering.

why does the red rig have nipples on the front bumper? is it a girl Heep? :p

1000% easier in the snow vs mud. the only real obstacle was "the hill", and the only thing that made it bad was the ice, lack of snow. Now if the trail was solid ice; that would be a toss-up; the ice would make it cleaner, but more dangerous.

oh, and Mark brought a great J--p, but yeah, I guess he just had to throw something in there that "we just wouldn't understand".

x2 on Ron's hill assessment. when we failed it the week before this trip it was that really wet, easily glazed/iced snow track and was a fantastic 80 toboggan run for Ali. this time it was a mix of almost melted snow but still frozen hard with dirt poking though in some spots. the majority of that trail was reallllly easy (like a nice dry summer) since the mud was so frozen. it got goopy by the end of the day and the first part might have been irresponsibly sloppy (i giggled a little at that last part i have to admit, sorry :D) and i could see us turning back if we had started out at 2pm or so that day instead of early like we did. but i also still have michelin stock XLT's and mud is not their forte... hardpack snow is my best bet for keeping up.

ROFL on the fem h--p, i saw that thing all day and never noticed it's "high beams" till you pointed it out siren... but then again i WAS staring at it's a$$ all day too.

The more I ponder (which ain't much, mind ya, a Heep is Heep), the more I wonder if they aren't horizontal fairlead stops?
Well, Heeps'd be the first to figure out better ways of getting outta stuff....

n ya, now I'm gonna be seeing high beams on Heeps all day....;)
