Dang man, just catching up on this. Glad you're feelin' ok bud! Hope the biopsy comes back clean.

The new guy

So I'm new here (at least in the local club)...

I'm looking around the local club forum here more and more since I'm joining and trying to get a feel for how things work and came across this HAMOM planned for Jan.

Looks great and I hope I can attend to meet more folks and help where I can. I saw on an earlier post someone is planning on installing front seats and tie rods (still waiting on them from bud built) which are both on my to do list so I'd like to come watch and lend a hand.

With that said can I ask a new guy question....where is this being held and when? I'd like to come check things out.

Jan 19-20 in southern pines nc. I'm hosting at my bosses farm and plan on a sizable bonfire Saturday night. Address upon request. Plenty of heated space to roll out a sleeping bag for whoever wants to stay over. 2 miles of atv trail on the property too for whoever wants to play. Bring your Christmas trees to throw on the fire.

I'm probably out due to the fact that I'm going to the work weekend the following weekend.

Youre missing the Hamom

BOOOOOOO!

Youre representing at the work weekend

Yaaaaaaaay!

I'll have to see what state the cruiser is in by that weekend, but if I can drive it down there I may try to squeeze in an Ebrake cable install in the mix.

If not ill drive the 4runner down on sat to lend a hand where I can and absorb as much knowledge from you guys.

Question: would it be stupid to do a tie rod and TRE replacement before doing a front axle rebuild? Meaning if I did the tie rod now then later on did the axle rebuild would I end up taking the tie rod right back out?

No, you can do them whenever however you want. Just realize that you will need to get an alignment afterward. It can be got inot the ballpark by numerous methods like the string trick but to make sure you will need to get it aligned.

Now that being said i have never taken my 45 to get an alignment after i built it and it steers great. But it is not my DD either.

I think ill pick up one of those universal TRE tools ..might make the switch easier..

I also plan on picking up some brite pink rattlecan to spray my tools ..I have a hard enough time keeping up with them in my own house Hahaha

Sent from my EVO using IH8MUD

If you paint the tool white first, then the pink , it will be much brighter. When working on construction sites I did the same with flo green on all my tools.

Right now I'm torn between either things that need to be done on the 40 or watching how ya'll do some of them (Ryan's 80 sliders included). It'll most likely depend on Sarah's out-of-town schedule and my free time/weather. I should at least be there for Saturday day time.

Anybody from CLT who wants to ride with me or caravan please get in touch with me.

John why don't you just come prepared for either? Certainly doesn't hurt...I'm getting amped up and excited already...can't wait to be around my support group haha

^^
That'll probably be the plan. I've always got something to do and most of the parts to do it. But really, I just washed the damn thing - shouldn't that be enough for another year?

My short/easy list:
++Flood lamp install
++AMAURER gauge cluster install
++Headlight relay install
++Raise seat frame
++New front turn signals install
++Rebuild interior DS lamp
++LED the hell out of it
++Empty ashtray

I'll come prepared to do electric but won't feel bad if I just watch, help and learn.

If you don't want to buy it yet, I'll have a couple different tie rod tools. I have no idea what type of tre this is but I'm gearing its the type that goes into a slotted tie rod? With a clamp around it to tighten? If so my otc tre tool will be perfect.

That should be all you need ryan, besides a pickle fork.
I've taken them off with a wrench before, but the socket and an impact is much easier.
