Help a member a month is me for Jan.
Jan 7th is a Saturday. Wrenching begins
when you arrive. I'll start right after breakfast. :bounce2:
Lynn will be preparing Cowpoke Chili and homemade bread
for lunch. We'll raid the freezer if the party "goes long".
I'll provide the
I need some carb tweaking, parking brake replacement, and
as always adjustment on those 4 drums. I have NO garage so
dress warmly. All are welcome to wrench their own as well.
I have a few tools. No air compressor, but I have some air tools.
One floor jack and two stands and two ramps. Some SSTs.
You don't have to wrench, just come hang out at Point-o-View.
The gate will be open. Come one, come all.
A head count would be nice .
See you Knuckleheads soon!

Wow - my schedule and UC events don't get along too well!!

I was planning on attending but won't be in town on the 7th. Oh well, take some pics / document if anyone is motivated because my 40 needs the things done David mentions above.

Have fun!

to do list

Scratch off washing the black mold off the truck. I got most of
it off today.
Scratch tuning the carb too. Purrs like kitten, roars like a lion.
Choke adjustment. I idled it for over an hour today after the tune
with no ill effects.
I'd like to remove the roof rack before the tree on #5. I think
we'll take it off here at home this time rather than with that tree.
While we are at it, I'd like to adjust my clutch too.
If time permits we'll spin those 8 wheel adjusters a mite.
I can't wait to have a parking brake again, TIA,
Chili luncheon awaits.

Wish I could make it but doesnt look like it at this point. We will see what I can do though. Wife acts like the baby is about to come any day. :)

David where exactly do you go once you get on 135. JP showed me where the rd is on the way by once. Something of significance to mark your driveway or something of that nature?

really wish I could be there tomorrow, I will in spirit.............. but I will be doing the same here, got two days to get the 40 up and running and reassymble !!! I am ready for MLK to get here, for the first time in my cruiser career I am tired to working on my cruiser :grinpimp:

So what time is "right after breakfast"?

Any tools needed?

Just get there by Chili Time. ;) Say Noonish. That way we'll have the upper
40s and not the low 20s for outdoors wrenching.
I'll be awake by 6:00 a.m. LOL.....come join me for Sumatra coffee.
I think I have the tools we'll need.
Sling your toolbox in Pepe just in case Pal!

Now THAT'S a parking brake!

Four clicks with the adjuster at it's initial position. I even think it would hold
with the truck out of gear on Capt'n Jim's driveway. :grinpimp:
Thanks to all attendees.
Hard40 got there early and us old timers fell in on the job at hand, at once.
We got the roof rack off in no time. By the time the youngsters arrived
Alan and I had the parking brake drum and shoes removed.
The new o.e.m. shoes were too wide where they fit to the adjuster so
Alan sped to his place to grind 'em down. Instead he returned with the
adjuster from a kit and the shoes fit the new adjuster.
Doh moment: Don't forget to drain the transfer BEFORE removing the
parking brake drum. ;)
That parking brake drum retaining castle nut w/ cotter is somewhere between
a 24mm and a 27mm which I don't have. :(
Oh well, Hard40 used the end of a socket extension and a hammer to knock it free
and it came right off. My needle nosed locking pliers were just the ticket for
removing and attaching the springs.
I didn't have spare gear oil so we called it a day once all was replaced.
I added the lube this morning and it all works great.
Again, thank you to the crew.
Thereafter we adjorned to Alan's shop where we helped install his new
rag top on his trail 40. Since it was in the 40s you can guess we had some
mighty straining and pulling going on. It went on none the less. hehe..
5 cruiserheads weren't about to let a rag top get the best of us.
So, the club kind of got a two fer one out of this month.
I had a great time. I can't wait till the next one.

Many thanks to Richard, Marshall, David And Alex. I think I got the better end of the day although Gundy did okay.

Your welcome Alan, you always extend your knowledge and facilities to all of us we were happy to be able to help you out.
