I've been a FJ40/55 guy since 2018, and a Toyota guy for years...but today, I joined the 80's club.

I purchased a Triple Locked 1997 FZJ80 in Desert Dune with Moonglow Pearl accents. I don't plan to make many modifications; I'll mainly tidy up a few small details and, most importantly, enjoy it. It has been well maintained and recently had a front-end rebuild, along with the replacement of the pesky heater hose. Here is a short list of a few items on my to-do list.

- Replace front seat covers
- Fix seat motors/switches so I can adjust the seats.
- Replace all the vacuum hoses under the hood
- Fix small rust spot on the rear upper hatch
- Clean up some surface rust and seal up on the underside
- Wet-sand the hood and roof and spray on new clear coat
- Repaint the wheel flares and clear coat
- Ceramic seal all the paint
- Clean up some wiring
- Fix the front spot lights

* ENJOY THE HEAK OUT OF IT!!!

It came with a box full of OEM parts and a Factory Service Manual. The previous owner was a Toyota guy for sure...

First project completed!

I am not sure why, but the rear exhaust manifold heat shield was in the box of parts in the back, so I reinstalled it. I also spent a little time sorting through the mess of wires on the front. It has some lights, and at one point, it had a winch and a second battery. Still more work to do here...

My house is starting to look like a Toyota dealership...

- Three FJ40s
- Two Sequoias
- One 4Runner
- One FZJ80

I admit it... I have a problem!!

Love the look of those steel wheels. Wanna trade? 😁 The PO of your 80 set you up well, complete with OEM oil filters and hoses. Nice find,

We only drive Toyota products as well.
2005 Siena bought new, now it's my son's DD. He's the same age.
2014 GX460, The wife's ride
2016 Rave 4, daughters DD, she bought it herself after the camery got rear ended.
1997 LX450, my DD and adventure rig.

The arrows and circles point to cracks in the heat shield. Mine were so bad the area around the flanged bolt head broke away. I welded washers to the face of the heat shield around the holes. Need to be very gentle as the steel is thin.
Then covered them with Aluminium refelective hight temp paint. Been holding up for a couple years now.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I noticed the cracks, and that is why I added the larger washers. I will also need to do some work here. I will add this to the list.

Like I said in my first post, I am new to FZJ80s. I know a lot of the quirks and issues with 40/55s, but not the 80 series. I have a lot of learning to do with this new one. I am looking forward to the challenge. I am thankful for all you guys on MUD and for our YOTA Atlanta group! What a great resource to help learn and keep these things on the road.

I need to source some items such as seat motors, sunroof seals, etc.

Where is your "go-to" place for OEM parts? Not aftermarket but OEM and used replacement parts?

I did the same trick with welding on some washers. In my defense, it was my early days of learning how to weld but it looked like a bird had been trapped under the hood s***ing out welds. I ended up buying new shields and hardware 🙄

I really need to stop looking back at your pictures... those wheels are making me think I need an upgrade!

Anybody know where these come from, wheel / tire sizing, and cost?

It doesn't help that my LC is the same paint combination.

These look like either 17" FJ or 16" 4runner spare steel wheels. I'm wondering if they require spacers.

I just painted a set of 17" FJ steel wheels last night. I went with black, but am thinking silver would have been even better.

Yes, they are 17" FJ wheels, and yes, they have a spacer on the front (two-inch, I think). I am not a big fan of spacers, but these are the wheels that came with the 80 when I bought it. I might eventually paint the original wheels Moonglow Pearl and put them back on. I like the way the original ones look.

This set of 16s is for sale near me for cheap (5 wheels $85). I'm tempted but just slightly prefer the oe wheels so will share this here in hopes that someone buys them so that I don't add more parts to my storage:

Many parts are still available through dealerships.
Myself and many others have had good experiences with Partsouq. Hard to fathom that shipping from the middle East would work, but it does. Fast shipping, good packaging. OEM Toyota and Lexus (and others). Land Cruisers were/are very popular in Saudi Arabia.
The website takes aa bit to get used to searching. It is a good place to find part numbers and then search for them.

The manuals are availble under the Resources tab aat the top of the window.
