Any progress? I have been stuck on wiring. More just trying to avoid it. Into the last bit that takes most of the time.

Keep in it. your wiring hanging over the side of the fender looks all to similar.

Not really, a few weeks ago I got all the pipes TIGed painted and ready to go. Wiring is as far as I can get it till the engine is back in. The main two issues now are time to work on it (been working out of town for the last 3 months) and my machinist. Just waiting on the last pice but its takin much linger than I had hoped.

I will be working in my home area for the next wile so if I get my adapter pice I will have it done in a few weeks. But thats depending on people out of my control.

Ok so the adapter is done for the most part. Just some final adjustments of some depths. Today we bolted it together though and it seemed to go together well. The hole for the converter pilot needs to be opened just a touch and the holes for the socket head bolts opened slightly.

Tomorrow AM we will test fit again with the changes made. From there if its all good I can get a move on and get this thing going. I have 3 weeks to get it mobile so I can get it out of my dads shop since he needs the hoist. I also leave in 3 weeks before a month working out of province. So would like to get it going before I go.

More updates with pictures tomorrow.

Adapter has had its final test fit and it seems to fit very well now. We made a few last min changes but it fits much better. Everything slides together with ease but precision no slop anywhere. Im waiting on one more crank bolt I should have tomorrow then Ill be hopefully bolting it all together for final time.

Converter bolted to modified flex plate.

Adapter hub bolted to Isuzu flywheel/crank.

Hope to get the rear main seal swapped out tomorrow night and the converter input seal on the trans swapped too. Once thats done I plan to fill and install the modified converter. Then bolt the two together.

I also got my intercooler all painted today as well as the mounting brackets.

Last weekend I removed the stock gas fuel pump and installed a bent 5/16th I believe (same size as the stock fuel lines on both the truck and engine). Was fairly simple and straight forward to do. I removed the wiring for the pump too on the hanger. I did not out a strainer in the tank as I plan to run a Napa 120Mu filter inline to get out any larger contaminants. Reason for this is its much easier to change a inline filter than get in and remove the pick up to clean it out. The tank was also completely cleaned at the same time its not got any gas left in it at all now ready for diesel.

The Viscus transfer case has been removed and drained from my A343 transmission and is ready to have the EBI 3:1 low range gears put in then bolted to the A440, nice thing with using the newer Tcase with a440 is my stock driveshafts will be used.

Think should move fairly fast now, 95% of the fab work is done just a few small details left to work out. Mainly trans cooler lines, bypass filter and cooler mounting. Last will be exhaust.

Awesome! So happy to see this! I'm right behind ya :-) My flex plate adapter looks just like yours. How precisely did you cut off the ring gear? I was planning to do it in a lathe or on a rotary table but a bandsaw sure would be quicker :-)

On the fuel delivery...remind me what you are using for a lift pump? I saved the one off the NPR but it's huge and am considering something smaller if it'll work.

Cutting off that gear was a pain in the ass. I actually want to get another one and see if there is a better way of doing it. As it sits it will work but it chattered like mad on the laithe and resulted in a poor quality cut.

The lift pump is on the side of the injection pump were the primber pump threads into. I do not plan to have any other pump.

My engine is out of an automatic NPR this is the flywheel they have. Have a feeling there diffrent thicknesses looking at your pictures.

Yes they must be more different than I thought. Looks like accessing the torque converter bolts on yours should all be fine.

I'm wondering if bolting the flex plate to a rotary table and cutting it might work. I'm worried about the rigidity of that when trying to cut it. I also wondered about bolting it up to the torque converter and mounting the whole mess in the lathe to cut it.

How are you fitting the newer T-case to the A440? Did you swap out the A440 output shaft to match the newer T-Case?

I believe FJ80 A440 has the same output as the later A442/A343. I know the A442 HF2AV can swap onto the A343 that my T case is off of. So since the A442 has the same output as the A440.....

Maybe Ill need to pull off one of my HF2A's to confirm.

So tonight I started sealing the rad, mount and intercooler. I have almost all the gaps filler and its turning out great. No pictures yet as I forgot my phone at home.

Basically I got some Autoform adhesive closed cell foam and started filing gaps. I then took a large truck mud flap (thick and fairly firm) to fill the gaps where the intercooler inlet/outlet come though. A bit tricky to get it to fit where I want it but its looking food. Almost no gaps at all, just two drains on the bottom for mud/water and thats a bout it. Very small gap around the inlet/oulets but its minimal 1/8th inch if that.

Also got the final crank bolt for the adapter so its all ready to go. Tomorrow I hope to change the rear main seal with the Isuzu kit that repairs the grove in the crank. Then I can torque everything on and I'm off to the races.

Can't wait for a vid of this running in the rig!

I hope that the trans and everything can cope with the power you are planning on running.
I think you should have it covered with everything you have planned.
Keep it up.

Yeah well see how the trans copes, i have a 2nd one on deck ready to go in if needed. I also plan to build one up a bit to handle the power at some point. Not planing on turning up the wick to much to start, want to make sure all systems are go and from there slowly see how it goes.

Should be a entertaining process. Im still sticking with my priorities, reliability first, efficiency 2nd and power 3rd. If power compromises the other two it will be turned down. I just do not want to have less performance than what had with the gas motor.

I forgot that the A440 was fitted to the early FJ80s so you should be all set. I was thinking of the A440 used in the FJ62s.

Will be interesting to see if the de-ringeared flex plate will take the torque without distorting... I would have thought the ringear would add some rigidity, tho it may not be critical...
excellent work WN

How much more torque do you think the NPR will make compared to the 4.5?

Yeah Im actually trying to get a stock flex plate to see if I can make it work with that. If not Ill see how this trimmed one goes.

Should be conservatively 2x the torque.

Ill get it on the same dyno I used to baseline the 1FZ so there is a fair comparison and hard numbers.
